POC Women’s Service Club continues to make a difference in Port O’Connor Texas. Our garage sales and bake sales made five scholarships possible for local grads and post graduate students. Congratulations to graduating seniors Haley R. Harper, Xavier Resendiz, Mikaela J. Overton, and Benjamin A. Mann, and to post graduate student Eric Escobar. POC Service club is proud to award them 2015 Scholarships and we look forward to hearing about their future successes.
The service club also helped with community events including memorials for some dear local friends and family, and providing food and baked goods for services and fundraisers. Our beach bike rack is in use and appreciated by some of our local peddlers, the pet potty station is soon to be available, and the POC Community Center we helped to develop and maintain is in almost constant use this time of year. Those cute kids learning to paint in the back youth room of the center each week are turning out some real masterpieces.
The deadline for the POC Community Locator Map has come and gone and the beautiful art map has gone to the printer for layout. We hope to be installing it sometime in July. Big thanks to all the businesses joining our efforts, and special thanks to all the club members who made personal calls and visits to local business owners to enlist their participation. You all did an awesome job! I feel very sure the small investment will pay off in a big way.
We are still working on the collection and layout of recipes for a new 2015 Cookbook. There will be some fun and interesting new categories and great recipes. More recipes are needed, so call to include yours. A very few remaining copies of the previous cookbooks are still available. Get yours from a club member before they are gone for good.
There is more to do in our community. So, if you would like to be a part of our club, we meet the 1st Thursday only during summer months 10:00 AM at the POC Community Center. All interested women are invited to visit and see if you would like to join us.
So, until next time, be safe, live simply, love openly, forgive generously and remember what the great German theologian, musician, philosopher, and physician Mr. Albert Schweitzer said, “The interior joy we feel when we have done a good deed is the nourishment the soul requires.” How’s your soul health today? We have some health food for yours at the POC Service Club. We’re happy to share!
