Each May, South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) readies for the temporary loss of 18% of their donor base – students. With students being out of school for the summer and adult donors out for planned family vacations, it’s important for the Center to start communicating the summer need before the lapse in donations affects the South Texas blood supply.

Anyone 16 years old weighing 120 pounds (with a parental consent form), or at least 17 years old weighing 110 pounds, and in good general health is encouraged to donate at the following community blood drives.

The blood donation process takes about an hour and includes a mini-physical consisting of a blood pressure, iron level, temperature and pulse check. Identification is required.
