Spring is in full Swing! The Spring Patterns are in affect right now. The trout are getting fat with their annual early eggs. The redfish and black drum are showing up from the Jetties to the Bays and Back Lakes. Love Combat Redfishing!!!!

Topwaters are in full swing. Walking the Dawg! Is always an exciting way to catch Bay Predators. Of Course tails are catching all species and sizes as well. Bone Chrome Bone is a good color to use or Woody Wood Pecker, redhead white body is an all time favorite of mine, both are great topwater colors to use.

Soft Plastics of all sorts seem to be a good bet to fill the Coolers full of fillets.

A Couple of days ago I had a wade trip and my customers Big Andy and Cool Cat Curtis started with tops with some luck but quickly turned to tails after a few misses on their topwater plug. I stuck with Color X DSL with a Hogie Lock on Head, 3/8oz. Yeah yeah its heavy I know but I like chunking it a country mile and dredging the bottom. Big Andy was using Tobin Stricklands Trout Support weedless Bait. I believe it was white ice . Then Cool Curtis was using DSL Big Eye Chicken of the C.

All baits caught limits and a few reds to boot. The wind was growing and they had to shag back to Htown to make more funds for their Fishing Habit. Hey Guides and Good Equipment are costly. I hope they make millions…Capt. Larson will take care of the rest.
Met with Captain Benny, aka Bull Red Benny or The Legend Maker, he answers to both. The other day, He was so kind to help me do some maintenance on my Tower Boat. He reported that the Sheephead Run is winding down but the Black Drum and Reds are moving in with an occasional Trout. The clearer the water the better the trout bite. He had a great few months limiting his customers on Sheephead.

Hey, Hey here’s one for you. Flounder gigging is making a BIG COMEBACK! The Gigging Guides are posting some great numbers. The Big Females are showing back up also. Definitely be sure to listen to your guide on the marginal flounder size. We have been walking for them. We had limits real quick. I use a wading shoe that is a size 14 so I can slide my foot along side a close fish. We Err on the side of caution. The larger shoe really helps on measuring the length of Springtime Flounder. A helpful hint on walking to gig flounder, Use wading Sox. The other night I didn’t use my wading Sox and small pieces of shell got in my shoes and Scratched the fire out of my feet. The tops of my feet were sore for a couple of days.

I try to lead by example…..of what not to do!

Billy has the Lodge Calendar for open dates. I would suggest adding a night of floundering to your stay. Its going to be a banner year.Billy Rhyne’s direct line is: 713-907-4796
