Debbie Busby, our Secretary, was present at the Awards Ceremony at Calhoun High School to present several scholarships to students graduating from high school in Port Lavaca. Receiving a $500 scholarship were Melissa Albrecht, Natalie Harper and Jessi Hernandez, all former graduates of POC Elementary School.

Melissa is the daughter of Debra and George Albrecht and plans to enter Texas A&M in Corpus Christi with plans to study Animal Behavior and Development. Natalie is the daughter of Marie and George Harper; she has maintained membership in the Honor Roll while working part-time to earn college money. Natalie will be studying at Sam Houston State with a major in Criminal Justice leading to a career as a Parole Officer. And Jessi Hernandez is the grand-daughter of L. Roy Bell; she is enrolled in Paul Mitchell Beauty School in San Antonio and will be taking classes leading to a career in cosmetology.

As we are now on our Summer schedule of holding only one meeting a month, the next meeting will be July 7th at 10:00 a.m. in the back room of the Community Center. We welcome all interested women at any time at our meetings; contact Shirley Gordon, Membership Chairman, 983-4365 or Janet Johnson, President, 983-4733 for further information. After all, you just may meet your neighbor here!
