Johnny Rhyne of Port O’Connor passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at the age of 80. He was born July 29, 1939 in McLennan County, Texas to John Henry “Bill” and Jo Laura Rhyne. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joyce Rhyne, children John Rhyne Jr., Stephen Rhyne, Laura Rhyne, Barbara Rhyne and Janie Goldman; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and many other loving family and friends.
Johnny spent his young years in the Kemah/Seabrook area, then traveled the U.S. and the world working as a Supervisor, Inspector, and Estimator in the Industrial Construction business.
Loving to fish, he settled in Port O’Connor more than 25 years ago. He spent a few years operating a Port O’Connor restaurant (Port O’ Drive Thru) where he was known for serving great hamburgers and steaks. After some time in the short-haul trucking business, he retired to manage his rental property (The Pond).
Johnny was not one to remain idle and was always building and/or repairing things on his property. Although sometimes appearing gruff, he was trusting and generous, always willing to help those in need. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.
Following a funeral service in League City, Texas on December 14 and a graveside service on December 15, both officiated by Rev. Erny McDonough, he was interred at Port O’Connor Cemetery.
