Friends and associates gathered recently to celebrate a milestone in Russell Cain’s life: 50 years as a real estate agent. Russell began in 1972, and has been a real state broker/owner of Russell Cain Real Estate since 1974. He has offices in both Port Lavaca and Port O’Connor.
Cain has sold more than 1,500 homes in Calhoun County and the surrounding areas. “I even sold one home on Holloman Street in Port Lavaca five different times. I sold it for a little more money each time,” he said.
A resident of Calhoun Ccounty for 65 years, Russell has been involved in many varied aspects of the community. He has been a member of many organizations, including the Memorial Medical Center Hospital Board, Gulf Bend Center, Port Lavaca Main Street Theatre, Rotary Club, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, Calhoun County Republican Club and others. He received the honor of being named Port Lavaca Citizen of the Year in 1993, one of 25 most influential citizens of Calhoun County in the 20th century in 2000, Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1992, and named a Hometown Hero in 2011.
He has worked with more than 60 real estate agents of all ages over the years. Realtor Jan Ragen, who has worked with Russell for 20 years, had this to say: “The celebration we had for him, reflected what Russell Cain has meant to everyone in this community and surrounding areas. We had delicious food, Texas wines, wonderful music singing and piano, and about 300 of Russell’s closest friends, clients, competitors, and generations of families, who came to be a part of a warm, loving celebration. It was a wonderful event.”
