The Chapel knows how to make one feel special on his 29th Birthday! Thanks for all of the calls, cards, greetings, and those who came to the party! It was exceptionally memorable for me, and I promise not to have another 29th birthday until next year! Special thanks to Pastor Joane who fixed the very best potato soup I have ever eaten and for her many generous touches upon the evening!
Mother’s Day was a great time of honoring all mothers. Pastor Joane did a fantastic job of preaching and her gifts are still being referred to as “second to none”! None of our four children were able to be present – and our offspring had their kids – our grandkids – with them, so I had to adept for that celebration.
But, we failed to mention our Easter! Sunrise service was again one for the record books. Two different people, each not knowing the other, came to me after the service and asked if I had an official counter. I did not, so both of them said they had counted to over 1,000 and they were certain there were several more! Thank the Lord for Sunrise on the Beach! The Baptist choir was excellent as usual. the greetings were sincere, and the Word was anointed. Thanks to First Baptist for providing the sound system and seating and the Chapel for the coffee. It was a great morning, even if the sun stayed behind the clouds, because the Son was truly shining!
I guess by now you have heard that we had two granddaughters who were married within a week. First, in Ohio, Naomi married Jorden James and they traveled here for her sister’s wedding. Ariel was married to Hunter Duck in a lovely ceremony on Lake Texana. They are making their home of the extreme west side of Victoria. Our prayers are with both of them for blessings and wisdom as they begin this next phase of life. And special congratulations!
We are in high gear for Warrior’s Weekend. We are making 500 breakfast tacos and having them ready to serve at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21. We have had a lot of helpers, from Elaine Ebner, who has recruited and directed the serving tables, men from the Chi Alpha, Huntsville, who are cooking eggs and sausage, and Pastor Joane who is leading the taco rollers. Our famous “Egg Cracking Party” is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 20. (We only have 85 dozen to crack and mix this year!) Hopefully you have the opportunity to be a part of the challenge. If you feel left out, please know that you can still donate to the expenses by giving to the Chapel for this event.
The Chapel will be “hostessing” a Ladies’ Retreat on June 10 and 11. The theme of the event is “Anchored”. The guest speaker is Theresa Hammonds from Angelton, and she will truly challenge and inspire each one who attends. There is no cost for this Retreat. It will be a great get-away and everyone is welcomed. Please call Pastor Joane at 361/648-4622 for further information.
If you have not come by the Chapel recently, you have missed seeing the progress. The 20 ft. footing has been installed and the concrete is being prepared. The 50 feet tall cross is about to become a reality! I have talked about it for 10 years and now it looks like it is about to happen! Thanks for those who have labored so hard along side us as we seek to do what we believe the Lord spoke to us to accomplish. The lights have been ordered are awaiting to shine two beams of light 110 ft. in the air. The cross will surely be a beacon, especially for those entering our shores after dark. I will talk more about this project, but be watching!
The Chapel is an interdenominational congregation whose goal is to “grow one relationship at a time”! One will always find a warm welcome here and all are urged to, “Come, grow with us!” Sunday activities begin at 10:00 a.m. with Bible Study for all ages; continues at 11:00 a.m. with our Morning Service; and concludes at 6:00 p.m. with our Evening Service. On Wednesdays, we gather at 7:00 p.m. for our Midweek Service, which is always especially refreshing!
