The Seadrift Assembly of God Church has a rich history of hearts set ablaze by the Holy Spirit. In the early 1900’s it was birthed in a spirit of revival.

The church has been served by numerous pastors beginning with Crell Smalley. The longest serving pastor was Robert Caddell who was fondly known as Brother Bob. This pastor stood out in the community as a caring, gifted leader. His legacy will always be remembered.

Brother Bob served not only as a pastor, but at one time he was the city mayor. He supervised the laying of the water lines to the new Seadrift School.

During World War II he conducted blood drives and led the prayer effort known as “The Seadrift Intercessors” which resulted in fifty-two servicemen coming home safe and sound! In later years a documentary was produced about this prayer effort by the 700 Club with the name “The Seadrift Intercessors”. You can watch this documentary by going to search and typing in www.cbn.com/content/seadrift intercessors, then click on The Seadrift Intercessors.

Brother Bob orchestrated a radio broadcast from the church. He, also, traveled to Victoria to broadcast the Gospel from a radio station there.

As owner of a tailor shop, he helped serve airmen stationed at Matagorda AFB with “duty ready” uniforms. Local families would request that Brother Bob be with them when their loved one went into the hospital. He led the fund-raising for Johnny Lee Holder to have an electric wheelchair. Johnny was crippled because of polio. He was the Seadrift Scoutmaster at that time.

Brother Bob had served the church thirty-two years. His passing was in 1969.

The Seadrift Assembly of God Church’s current pastors are Tim and Beverly Smith. Originally from Houston they have pastored the church for twenty-eight years. They have three children and six grandchildren.

One of the church’s projects is the church’s contribution to the Pleasant Hills Children’s Home in Fairfield, Texas. One year the church collected around seventy bath towels for the children, house staff, and the house parents. Another project the church participated in was with a group called Sole Mission which provided shoes for local children. Every year the church is committed to providing school supplies for children. A visit with some great guitar picking for nursing home residents is a priority to some of the church’s members.

Seadrift Assembly of God is one of Seadrift’s churches that has left a lasting impact on the community.
