Veterans Day was observed on the 11th, but every day is a good time to remember those among us who have served our country. This issue we feature two of our Veterans from Seadrift – just two of the brave in our community.

Andrea and Raul Gutierrez

Area Veterans

Our area is honored to have military veterans who have served our country well. We salute you if you have served or if you support those who do! We live in a great country and it’s up to us to keep it that way.

Two veterans from our area are Raul and Andrea Gutierrez. Raul is from San Antonio; Andrea is from Portland, Oregon. They both could tell you lots of stories about the places they have been deployed.

Raul started his military career in the Marines as an inventory management specialist and ended his military career in the medical logistics field. Andrea was an Air Force Medic. Raul transitioned from the Marines to Civil Service. Then he went into the Air Force Reserves. Andrea served in the Air Force Reserves for twenty-one years. Raul served in the military, Civil Service, and the Reserves for a combined total of thirty-six years. That’s a span of service between the two of them of almost sixty years!

During her military career Andrea was involved in the Bosnia-Herzegovina Conflict as well as other humanitarian efforts. Some of the tours of duty that Raul was part of were Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Enduring Freedom, and the Global War on Terror.

Andrea says about her military experience, “The military has been good to me.” Raul says, “The military gave me the greatest experience of my life.”

Raul and Andrea have lived in Seadrift for twelve years. About Seadrift Raul says, “We enjoy the tranquility of Seadrift. The people have always been very courteous and helpful.”

Raul and Andrea enjoy the outdoors and are avid flower and vegetable gardeners, and love growing trees.

For Veteran’s Day they take the time to watch war movies.
