While Memorial Day’s primary purpose is to honor and remember the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. military, it also marks the unofficial start of summer. The warm weather and longer days beckon visitors from across Texas to visit our little village.

This Memorial Day we had a great turnout for our Kid’s Fish Tournament and the Kite flying contest held over Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to Deb Powell with POC Rod and Gun   for hosting the Kid’s fishing tournament this year and the volunteers who make this event possible.  It is always a great time seeing the kid’s excitement when they catch the big one. Also, a big thank you to Shirley and James Harper and their helpers for hosting the Kite Flying contest. We all love seeing all that color up in the sky.

June first was the start of red snapper season and if you are planning a trip, don’t forget to sign up for the POC Red Snapper Tournament. Weigh in is held daily at Hurricane Junction throughout the season. This tournament supports several of our local clubs and organizations in the POC Community

Kicking off the Fourth of July weekend is the annual parade which will be held on Friday, July 4th, at 9:00 am, and will start in front of the library.  Decorate your golf cart, trailer, car, or motorcycle with red, white, and blue. The excitement doesn’t end after the parade and on Saturday, July 5th, the community will come together again for the highly anticipated fireworks display scheduled for approximately 9:00 pm.  If you have experienced fireworks in the past we hope to provide you with another great show. Please consider donating to help with the costs by contributing on our website or drop off your donation and place in the fireworks containers at several local businesses.

The second Saturday of each month you need to visit the Port O’ Connor Farmers Market  at the Kingfisher Beach Pavilion from 8:00-12:00. You can usually find fresh vegetables, jams and jellies, homemade breads, and fresh eggs. Our local artists are there as well with beautiful coastal pieces.

We appreciate our new and renewing members De Webworks which specializes in delivering tailored IT solutions that drive success for small businesses. The Fishing Center, Lamar Advertising and Cliff Blank Rentals

For more information on these businesses and our other chamber members please visit our website at www.portoconnorchamber.com.
