Seadrift – Chuck Austin, 90, passed peacefully from this earth at his home on San Antonio Bay, on Monday, August 29, 2011. He was a child of the Great Depression, a proud Texan, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a veteran of the WWII Pacific Fleet, and he made his presence felt from Pearl Harbor to the Piney Woods of East Texas to his resting place on the Texas Gulf Coast. He was an artist, as gifted with his hands as seen in his metal works, as he was a musician. He was a welder, retired from the Union Carbide Seadrift Plant after 25 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and a daughter, Charlotte.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret. He is also survived by his children, Charles “Mike” (Adrienne); grandsons, Stephen and Zachary; daughter, Susan Taylor (Ron); grandsons, Joshua and Lucas; sons, Robert; granddaughters, Devin and Danielle, and David (Kathy); and granddaughters, Christy, Angela, and Jamie.
