Herb & Adell Reeves of Port O’Connor & Katy, Texas were honored for their 50th Years of Marriage and Ministry with a reception hosted by their children , Steve and Stacy Reeves of Katy,and Scott and Heather Reeves of Austin, as well as their grandchildren, John and Sarah Reeves of Katy, and Ella and Tessa Reeves of Austin. The beautiful vow renewal ceremony and reception were held in the Williams House on the west campus of Second Baptist Church of Houston on Saturday, August 27th from 2-4P.M. and was attended by a large number of family and friends with over 300 signing the guestbook. Special guests were present from their wedding party, Shirley Wade Thomas, Alice Reeves Blakey, Karen Fourmigue Reeves, and Randy Jennings. Also guests coming from out of state to share in this beautiful time, Elaine Tribble Glenn (La.), Gary and Rita Brown (New Mexico), and Nina Harris from St. Louis, Mo..During the vow renewal service, the couple shared the vows they had written themselves. Grandchildren John and Sarah Reeves sang Allan Jackson’s “If I had It to do all Over”. Son Steve sang “My Tribute”. Daughters-in-law Stacy and Heather Reeves and granddaughters Ella and Tessa Reeves shared a scripture reading from I Corinthians 13, and son Scott welcomed the guests and said a prayer of blessing and a closing prayer of dedication.

The couple was attended during the Vow Renewal Service by their two sons, and daughters-in-law, and their 4 grandchildren. Honorary Attendants were those from their original wedding party, as well as Denise Arnold, their grandson John’s sweetheart.

Friend Janice Daniels provided piano music for the Vow Renewal Service, and friends Jewell Goree, Patsy Dean, Jimmie Box, and Robbin Crowell provided soft piano music for the reception.

Herb & Adell were married on August 26, 1961 in Calvary Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Herb & Adell met in Corpus Christi when Herb entered the University of Corpus Christi (now A & M at Corpus Christi) as a young Ministerial Student. After graduating from UCC in 1965, they moved to North Texas to where he entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and he graduated in 1969 with a Master of Divinity Degree. Herb served as a minister to Texas Baptist Churches in Kenedy, Mineral Wells, Iola, and the Houston, and Katy areas. For the past twenty years he has been a Corporate Chaplain . Adell is retired from Katy ISD.

The couple thanks their children and grandchildren, and all of their extended family, and dear friends for their love, and for this very special celebration.

They have been coming to Port O’Connor for over 40 years, since 1969, first with Preston and Hazel Reeves (of San Antonio-Herb’s parents). Then after Preston’s death in 1990, and Hazel’s in May of 1994, they inherited (Reeves Boggy Lookout) on West Taylor. They continue to enjoy Boggy Lookout with their children and grandchildren. Herb has just recently decided to Semi- Retire, and hopes to spend a lot more time in Port O’Connor. They call it” their Little Hawaii of the Texas Coast”. They have found Port O’Connor to be filled with caring loving residents, and love being a small part of this great community!!!
