Sixth grade science student Gage DeForest helping younger students Joseph Blevins, Dylan Cameron, and Joey Perez learn about our solar system while working on his science project.
Gage was working on drawing the solar system on a poster board when the younger boys gathered around and started asking questions. Gage grabbed the teachable moment and told the boys all about the solar system, the planets and the sun. I was blessed to be a part of it. Pre-Kindergarten:

Taegan, Mia, Nevaeda and Mileidy show the Double Bubble Thinking Map the class made, sorting Arctic animals by whether they are land animals, water animals, or both.

After listening to the story, The Listening Walk by Paul Showers, Mrs. Canales and Mrs. Flisowski's 2nd Grade class went on a listening walk. They did such an outstanding job that they were rewarded with a snack, which led the students to create a Tree Map using their 5 senses. Here they are in front of the school using their hearing abilities.

Science is our business in the 5th grade classroom of Melissa Canales. The students have been learning the uses of various equipment as experimentation is accomplished. One such skill developed during a laboratory activity include measuring the volume of a solid through water displacement. The students learned to measure the volume of water with a graduate cylinder, measure the volume of the solid and the water, then calculate to find the volume of the solid alone. Although laboratory time may be a messy time, it allows the students an interesting method by which to learn scientific concepts:

The 8th graders enjoyed Thanksgiving early this year. Mrs. Charnetski’s class concluded their study of the Separatists (Pilgrims) with a fruit, bread, nut, and honey cake feast. To help recreate this great event, the students made and wore Colonial hats.

Heather Carter was one of a dozen parent volunteers who came and assisted their student with a group project on the Early Texas Explorers. Mrs. Carter is the parent of Taylor Carter, a 7th grade Texas History student in Mrs. Charnetski's class.

The Seadrift Cross Country Team, along with Travis Cross Country, placed First in the Beeville Cross Country Invitational on September 9. Here is the team finishing practice in the bright early morning at Seadrift School.
