Habitat for Humanity, Calhoun County, Inc. is about to kick off its new program endearingly known as “Jim O’Neil’s & Rehabilitation Project.” The new project which will allow Habitat for Humanity, Calhoun County, Inc. to serve more families. In addition to the new builds HFHCC is currently doing, the BWK program will include minor and some major repairs to existing homes. The program invites the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans and anyone who qualifies to apply (See application for criteria).

Applications will be available October 10, 2011 at City Hall, The Chamber of Commerce, Russell Cain Realty and the Habitat for Humanity, Calhoun County Office. There also will be applications available at Habitat’s booth at the County Fair (October 11th thru October 15th). This program is a city-wide neighborhood revitalization effort in which the City of Port Lavaca, HFHCC and the Local Board of Realtors are partnered. The city has agreed to put funds into the program to help in 2012, and to sponsor at least one house each year, thereafter. The Board of Realtors, by way of Russell Cain is actively seeking qualifying property owners, as well.

We are in need of sponsors for the program; no amount is too small or too large. Interested volunteers, please email: barbara.watson.coordinator@gmail.com.

Here is the goal for our time-line.

1. October – Applications made available to anyone wishing to apply

2. November – Program Kickoff; Selection committee review applications and begin home inspections

3. December – final selections & credit checks

4. January, 2012 – Project begins

This project is a giant step for Habitat for Humanity, Calhoun County, Inc., and a big step for Port Lavaca.
