Jerry Wayne Nutt, 62, of Port O’Connor passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012. He was born August 8, 1949, in Beeville to the late Kenneth and Anna Jana Nutt.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Nutt; sister, Debbie Linney and husband John; brother, Terry Nutt and wife Mary; step-children, Tina, Dean and wife T.K. and Michael and wife Rose Clark; and two step-grandchidren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betsy Tiller Nutt; and son, Cody Wayne Nutt.
A memorial service was held January 20, 2012 at Fisherman’s Chapel in Port O’Connor. In addition to his family, there was an abundance of friends, including many who had worked for Jerry over the years in his lawn maintenance business, and many who had been a part of the “Smokin’ Nuts” barbecue team, of which Jerry had been a prominent member.
Besides being well-known for his barbecue, (One friend said Jerry was the only man he knew who would barbecue in the rain!) Jerry was also known for his ready smile, his jokes, and general good humor.
In the words of his brother: “The size of Jerry’s heart matched his girth.”
Jerry will be missed by the Port O’Connor community.
