Kimberly Wofford of Austin caught this New State Record Catch and Release Sheepshead on March 4, 2012 in Matagorda Bay. The 23” fish was caught on live shrimp.

The idea behind the catch and release category is to recognize anglers who release their catch and may not have a scale available on the boat to obtain a certified weight before letting them go.

If a certified weight IS available, and the fish is released alive, an angler could possibly receive both a Catch and Release Record and a weight record for the same catch.
