Near Charlie’s Bait Camp, Friday, May 11

At 12:11 a.m. Friday morning, May 11, Seadrift Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the South end of Lane Road next to the Intracoastal Waterway. Several mobile homes and travel trailers near Charlie’s Bait Camp were damaged by a possible tornado. A few vacation homes in the Shoalwater subdivision were also damaged. Seadrift Firefighters, assisted by Port O’Connor Firefighters and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies, did a search of the damaged structures. A shrimp boat that was docked there was apparently blown loose by the high winds and was found drifting in the Intracoastal Waterway. U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi was notified of the hazard by radio and barge traffic in the area was shutdown until the owner was able to go out and retrieve the drifting shrimp boat.
