Seadrift: Raymond Oran May, Sr., 79, joined his heavenly family on September 5, 2012. He was born on March 22, 1933 in Port Lavaca to Oran and Grace White May.
He will be remembered for his hearty laugh, coming from one typically quieter than the rest of the men in the room. He proudly carried on the tradition of the May men in service to his country and community by serving in the US Army, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Seadrift Police Department and the Seadrift City Council. He also broke ground as a fishing tool consultant with an awesome world-wide reputation. More than all this, he was a family man. He showed how much he loved his wife and four children every day. This man will be missed here on earth and welcomed in heaven.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; sons, Raymond May, Jr. (Denise), Marcus May (Jackie); daughters, April Townsend (Keith), Pamela Mills (Hardy); grandchildren, Christy Bryant (Robert), Ashley Waghorne (John), Hunter and Fisher Leita, Miles and Stormy Mills; great-grandchildren, Aidan Bryant, Lily, Dusty and Felicity Waghorne; step-grandchildren, Courtney, J.W. and Lisa Mills, Jessica, Samantha and Kristi Townsend and Robert Horton; step-great-grandsons, Cory and Matthew Bryant.
In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his twin brother Owen, brothers, Johnny and Kenneth (KEM) May and grandson Dustin May.
Funeral services were held on September 7, 2012 at Grace Funeral Chapel with Pastor Johnny Kisiah officiating. Burial followed at Seadrift Cemetery.
