With the busy holidays over, “Friends”  is gearing up for several fundraising events benefiting our building campaign to kick off 2014!  The chili/gumbo cook off at Hurricane Junction last October was a huge success, so we want to follow up with some other ways to fund our “new library” goal.  Look for our booth again this year at the Lion’s Club Art and Craft Festival on Saturday, March 8 at the Community Center Pavilion.  Hand crafted quilted handbags by a local artist and a variety of hard backed novels will be offered for sale  and information on our ongoing activities to promote the new library will be available.  On April 25,  a community center spaghetti dinner  is planned (think meat, vegetarian, cheese, and other delicious versions of spaghetti, green salads, crusty breads—details to follow later).  Two  or three other fundraising occasions will happen throughout Spring  and  POC residents  will be kept informed of ongoing activities with a newsletter during the springtime.

Board activities include the election of Vera Wiatt to the Board of Directors and the formation of an Advisory Board.  Members of the Friends Advisory Board will support the Friends of POC Library Board of Directors in their activities and goals.  They will be kept up-to-date on Friends happenings, will participate and have input into ongoing activities, be champions of the new library quest in POC by taking opportunities to share with community members the need and the excitement of being involved, and will commit to attending an annual meeting.

Stay tuned next month for lots more news from Friends!
