Hooked-on-books
Hooked On Books held its December Book Club Meeting and Annual Christmas Party on December 12, and it was a fun and festive event.

The covered dish affair provided a scrumptious spread of appetizers, entrees, sides, desserts, and beverages. The Ladies enjoyed the feast over cheerful visiting and Yuletide merriment.

Following the meal, the group held a discussion of December’s book, Manchester Christmas by John Gray. All agreed that it was a great Christian romance with a heartwarming setting, a snow globe-worthy small town in New England and a worthy conflict with the main character searching for meaning in her life.

The Ladies wrapped up the event with a highly competitive, boisterous, and entertaining Chinese Christmas Gift Exchange with much good-natured stealing, swapping, and chiding! It was a fun and wonderful afternoon and a great time was had by all. Many thanks to Michelle Lippold for her warm hospitality!

The Club’s next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 and January’s book is Alone by local writer Megan E. Freeman. If you are interested in joining Hooked on Books, please email your contact information to alanehaardt@yahoo.com. All ladies are welcome. The Book Club Ladies wish you all a very Merry Christmas 2023 and a Happy New year 2024!

The Calhoun YMCA camp will be available from December 21 to January 8. It’s important to note that each location will be closed on specific days for the holidays.

Camp activities include holiday games, crafts, gym time and STEM activities.

The camp fees for Calhoun YMCA are $105 for Y members and $115 for non-members.

Tina Padron from the Calhoun County YMCA remarks, “Christmas Camp is the perfect getaway for kids to have fun beyond the screen. It’s a place filled with engaging activities, and as a bonus for parents, it eliminates the hassle of finding a babysitter during the holiday season.”

Parents are encouraged to register their children early to ensure a spot in this popular program. For the Calhoun YMCA, Tina Padron can be reached at 361-551-2562 or tpadron@ymcavictoria.org for more information.
