Rhonda Cummins, Calhoun County Extension Agent, Coastal and Marine Resources, continues the “Cooking with Seafood” monthly demonstrations at the Bauer Exhibit Building in Port Lavaca, with an emphasis on wild game.
On September 9 at 6:00 p.m., join Vern Lyssy and Tom Crenshaw for a smorgasbord of hog that you won’t believe is wild. Ryan Damborsky will be on hand to discuss feral hog management options. Joshua White of L3 Outdoors has been invited to come showcase his business that helps farmers, rancher and other land owners keep their feral hogs at manageable levels.
There is no charge for these monthly demonstrations and all interested persons are welcome.
Congratulations to Sharon Thompson, Alejandra Robles, Karinna Madera, and Lyndee Pursewell who completed the Nurses Aide Program at Victoria College Calhoun County Center on August 1st. The students learned entry-level nursing assistance to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. They also learned to check vital signs, help patients with basic healthcare needs and assist residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Graduates of the course are eligible to take the Texas Nurses Aide Registry Exam.

Gone ‘til next year: County workers level the Warrior’s Weekend sand sculpture that was created by Gloria Fric and her crew of master sculptors and local volunteers. The 16-foot patriotic sculpture stood at the POC Community Center for more than two months.
