Winners of Lunch with the Principal

Names of students who purchased books during the Scholastic Book Fair were entered into a drawing. One winner from each grade got to have lunch with the principal, Lydia Strakos.

Condolences – Mary Lou Bindewald

Mary Lou Montgomery Bindewald, 86, of Seadrift, passed away November 17, 2012. She was born January 3, 1926 in Bay City, Texas, to the late Otis and Mary McLendon Montgomery.

She earned her Nursing degree from Baylor University in 1948. In 1949, she married M.B. “Bert” Bindewald and they moved to Seadrift and began farming and ranching. She retired from Dupont with 15 years of service as a Registered Nurse.

Mary Lou is survived by her brother, Duncan Otis Montgomery; nieces, Mary McGuire and Barbara Hotaling; nephews, Tim and Mark Montgomery; great-nephews, Jamie, Joshua and Jeremy Kirby; Jake McGuire; Gareth, Zach, Brian, Michael, Matthew, Mark, T.J. and Samuel Montgomery; great-nieces, Stephanie Kirby; Brady McGuire; Nadine Pruitt; Molly, Natasha, Miah and Laurel Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; parents, Otis Montgomery and Mary McLendon Montgomery; and nephews, John Patrick and Thomas Scott Montgomery.

Funeral service was held at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home with her nephew Jamie Kirby officiating. Burial followed at Seadrift Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jamie, Joshua and Jeremy Kirby; Mary Montgomery McGuire; and Gareth and Tim Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Dierlam, Tommy Stanfield, Tom Sanders, Bob London and John F. Smith III.

Memorials may be made to The Hospice of South Texas or the charity of your choice.

Turkey Cook Off

Congratulations to “Team Chupa Gobbler” who swept up First Place in most of the cook-off categories during the Turkey Cook Off on November 17. The team, consisting of Eloisa and Joe Newson and Lori Thomas, took first in Smoked Turkey, Apple Cobbler and Sangria.

Cub Scouts from Pack 116, Port O’Connor, participated in BSA Scouting for Food. Canned foods were collected and donated to the local food pantry. -Beverly Clifton

The City of Seadrift is grateful to Dow’s UCC Seadrift Operation for their generous support of Seadrift’s Centennial Celebration.
