Actor, friend, and creator of the KNG Chronicles, Randal Reeder fishing with Castaway Lodge in October.

It’s just that time of year again when hard weather will flip things on its head. Yesterday’s cold front conditions were a stark contrast to fishing on Saturday. A couple of guests didn’t prepare well and even turned down an extra jacket before hitting the water, big mistake. At one point, one of the guests on my boat was “done” in about an hour. There isn’t anything worse than seeing a guests cringing behind the console completely miserable and incapacitated while the other guests are hell bent for action. Fortunately, I had multiple layers on and was able to give up my jacket as I got more active netting fish. I’ll never forget the words of an old time waterman who told me “if it’s under 80 degrees and you are going on the water, you will need a jacket for sure”. That has been a benchmark for me to this day some 20 years later. Well yesterday’s weather required more than a wind breaker for sure.

We’ve hit the water the last few days going deep in the action with strong Redfish action in heavy winds and now cold front conditions. On Friday, with 6 boats on the water entertaining a builder group, the boys went deep into backing taking full limits of Redfish with numerous oversize and lots of catch and release. Fast forward to Sunday and we lost better than a foot of water from the upper bays and yesterday’s hammer hole may now be today’s mud hole. I decided to focus our efforts on falling water and quickly ran into a nice bite on lower end Black Drum which quickly turned Red to 27”. Capt. Chris worked the back marsh by airboat taking advantage of rising water. So you might take note that there are two approaches here, falling water in the upper bays and rising water on the barrier island. Both present an excellent opportunities for great success.

We are certainly welcoming the cooler weather and there just isn’t a better time to get on some fish. In focus, in bound migrations of Pintails, Teal, Gadwall, Widgeon, with big duck season just around the corner. We saw a few nice flocks yesterday and I’m sure more are on the way. Come see us when you get a chance!

The autumn season has just begun, and milder temperatures will slowly become the norm rather than the exception. With these milder conditions coastal anglers will have chances at taking advantage of some new opportunities that previously may not have been available to them over the course of the previous hot-weather months. But in order to be fruitful in the emergence of this year’s fall fishing pattern, anglers will need to take a close look at some of the changing criteria that could help them become successful along the way.

First, the dominant winds out of the south will slowly begin handing-off their authority to a northerly influence. This should prove to be rather slight in nature during early October, but should also signify to anglers the importance for them to begin thinking of a new approach for days when they may be out on the water when northern winds are stronger than usual. In as such, coastal anglers will soon be required to find areas that support comfortable, yet productive, fishing conditions. This will probably mean that many anglers will need to find shorelines that are protected from the north wind – a practice that might just be downright new to a lot of us. Whenever I’m forced to look for such areas, I always make it a point to try to promise myself not to stop on any shoreline that doesn’t appear to have any bait activity. Granted, bay waters will have already cooled a bit in October, but not yet to the point to where bait activity will have been greatly affected. When you do find bait in a place protected from the north wind, pay attention to the color of the water. If you happen to be fishing during the actual occurrence of a cooling frontal passage, the water may not be as clear as it would be otherwise. When this is the case for me, I always throw darker baits while casting to jumping and nervous mullet. As we get closer to the much colder days of winter, the bay waters in our coastal bend area will start taking on a crystal clear coloring effect. Once that begins happening on a regular basis, I will start to consistently throw baits that have some sort of bright color associated with them – dark plastics that have a very dark body, but that also have a very bright tail.

A second item on the criteria list for a rewarding autumn will be my ability to locate supporting structure. What does that mean exactly? This means that if I’m picking a protected shoreline on which to start my day, I’m going to want to find one that has shallow water immediately adjacent to some deeper water. These autumn fish are often traveling to-and-from a bit deeper water this time of the year, approaching the shallows in order to warm-up a little during the daytime sunlight. I also like finding protected shorelines that have a lot of small patches of shell scattered all along the banks. Trout like these areas, but the red fish action can simply be tremendous in places like this in October. Now then, if I happen to be fishing the open water of the bay on the third day (normally the first calm day) following the passage of a cool front, then structure takes on an entirely different meaning for me. Open-water structure, for me, means only one thing…..shell. Due to the fact that I’m located so close to San Antonio Bay, I’m fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of some of the finest fall shell fishing that the Texas coast has to offer. Say Antonio Bay is littered with shell reefs and pads, all of which tend to come alive at this time of the year when the waters begin their annual cooling period. I’ve achieved some of my absolute finest days on the third and fourth days after a cold front while fishing on top of and around the shell reefs in San Antonio Bay in October and November. If you haven’t tried it, you really should!

In wrapping up this edition of Guide Lines, we wish to remind all of the rapid approach of the upcoming waterfowl season, with this year’s duck season being November 3-25, 2012, and then again on December 8, 2012, through January 27, 2013. We will soon commence our annual preparations of the blinds, and we recommend November as being a wonderful time of the year to experience a “Blast & Cast” trip, also known as our Duck-Fish Combos – hunt waterfowl in the morning, take a short break, and then exchange the shotgun for top water lures in the afternoon. Remember to practice CPR, “Catch, Photo, and Release”, whenever possible on trophy Trout and Reds…Guide Chris Martin, Port O’Connor/Seadrift region. www.BayFlatsLodge.com…1-888-677-4868

Letter to the Editor

During a recent strong squall that came thru we had a kayak blown out of a sling and did minor damage around our boat stalls. After searching the area and checking all the places that you can imagine, we were about to resign ourselves that someone indeed had helped themselves to it, never to be seen again. I proceeded to take down the sling and thought about the kids missing their kayak and how much they enjoyed it. Sure enough Johnny Hawes was visiting with Joe Rivera and said he was about to put an ad in the Dolphin Talk about a kayak he had found in Barroom Bay. Joe knew I had lost mine and called me. After describing it to Johnny he told me to come by and pick it up, it’s now back home! It’s always great to be reassured that POC abounds with good people, many thanks to Johnny, Kristin, Uncle Buck and Bridget, the Fishing Center family.

Thankful for Their Work

We are thankful for the work that State Representative Todd Hunter did for our District 32 for Windstorm, Human Trafficking, the Calendar Committee and many others.
Dr. Windstorm will now represent most of Nueces County.

You can count on Todd even though our new State Representative is Geanie Morrison. Geanie will represent Calhoun County and Victoria County very well and we look forward to working with her. Geanie has served Texas for a long time and will serve our County well.

U.S. Congressman Ron Paul gave my father Roland Cain and my mother Virginia Cain, his WWII Medals one year before my father passed away. You can always count on Ron Paul to represent the Veterans and the senior citizens on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Thank you, Todd and Ron, very much for the service to our County and the State of Texas and our Nation.

Campaign Fundraising Scandal

Once again the Obama administration is involved in another huge scandal. Soon after the Obama campaign bragged on raising $181 Million in campaign donations in September, the Government Accountability Institute today (10/8/12) released details of an eight-month probe into fundraising by the presidential candidates and all House and Senate candidates that also shows that the president’s outreach and fundraising have targeted websites in Chinese, Arabic, Thai, and Korean. Generally, donations from foreign nations are illegal.

Furthermore, 98% of these donation were small enough not to require donor information. It appears that many of these small Internet donations were funded with pre-paid credit cards that are practically untraceable. There seemed to have been a surge after SecState Hillary Clinton announced her intention to continue foreign aid to Egypt($3.2 Billion) and Pakistan. McClatchy reports,” In her Sept. 13 notices, Clinton informed Congress that she was waiving provisions of the 2009 Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act and the State Department’s 2012 budget requiring that she certify that Islamabad has met certain conditions before some $2 billion in economic, military and counter-terrorism assistance can be disbursed.” Some of the Pakistani military and intel services have been actively supporting Taliban and Al Qaeda and the above cited law was passed to stop that. It hasn’t stopped, and Clinton intends to give Pakistan the aid anyway. Clinton has also promised a $450 million aid package to the “Syrian rebels” in spite of evidence that most are connected with Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. Looks like another Libya to me.

Whose side are they on? I know, what ever it takes to win the election: The Chicago Way.

Bill Brayshaw,
Seadrift.

Thank You

A letter of thanks to the people who attended my birthday party. As I told Margaret Jennings, there’s no place I’d rather live than Port O’Connor. People are so nice and helpful to me here. I did enjoy seeing all my friends.

Thanks for all the cards, gifts, meal tickets and lottery tickets. I had lots of fun scratching them off.

I am still receiving cards and greetings from people who recognized me from the article in the Dolphin Talk. My thanks to Joyce Rhyne.

My thanks again to the people of Port O’Connor and out of town people who attended.

Love and Prayers,

Letter to the Editor

As we near the coming Presidential elections, I would like to suggest a book to read for anyone concerned about the future of America. The book is called Islam, the Seed of Slavery by the Rev. Maiwa’azi Den Denia of Nigeria.

Raised in an Islamic system, Rev. Den Denia sheds light on the hopes and dreams of the Nation of Islam by sharing the strategies employed to position Islam for conquest.

1. Alienate the poor through evangelizing and humanitarian efforts and also demonizing the successful.

2. Slowly and quietly, infiltrating all sectors of society, business, education, and governmental positions, in order to exact greater leverage to control wealth, information and law.

3. Sowing seeds of division through racism in order to divide everything and everyone from family units, churches, and even entire nations.

Does any of this sound familiar? I wonder, are we being positioned for conquest?

Media Malfeasance – Campaign 2012

With the Obama Debate Debacle, and the Mainstream Media’s reaction, there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Media has been “in the tank” for Obama since the beginning of the 2008 campaign, and still is. No matter how poor his administration’s performance, the most secretive administration ever, or the excuses and even outright lies fostered on them and the American people, they still blindly cover up for him. They are not reporting the news if it is negative to Obama, and even regularly spin the news to try and convince people that bad isn’t so bad, and if it really is bad, that it is someone else’s fault. Anyone who tries to hold Obama or his administration responsible for their mistakes and failures is automatically labeled a Racist!

Actually this is the worst form of racism; they are really saying that he should not, and can not, be held responsible for his actions because he is black. Isn’t that truly Racist?

Post-debate, there was an emotional melt-down at MSNBC because of Obama’s failure to stand up to Mitt Romney’s questions, facts, plans, and his pointing out that Obama’s statements and answers were often simply untrue. I suspect that part of Obama’s lack of truth is directly related to MSNBC’s (and many others) constantly acting as the Obamunist Propaganda Machine and he has been listening to them for so long that he no longer recognizes the truth from the propaganda. This is major problem with “The Big Lie Politics”; don’t start believing the propaganda you feed to the Sheeple. The Obamunist Govt Model has proven to be the problem, not the answer. But with the Media, they won’t tell the truth, while we slide into economic ruin. This Media’s “Job One” is re-elect Obama, economy and the people be damned.

Polls

Recent polls that have shown Obama ahead have mostly been based on the 2008 demographic that gives the Democrats a +7 advantage over Repubs. That is no longer true. Voter registrations over the past 3 years have been heavily Republican. The only exceptions seem to be in areas worked by unions and ACORN groups that falsify many registrations because they are paid. Also in some areas where the Democratic Primary may be the real election in local races, many people register Dem, but usually vote Rep or Ind. in Statewide or National elections. In telephone polls many more people now describe themselves as Republican or Conservative than pick Democrat or Liberal. Also, reports by pollsters say as few as 9% of the contacted people are willing to even answer any questions. This may be a huge impact in the election.

The constant blathering of Liberal Pundits on how much the polls favor Obama is simply a tactic to discourage Conservative and Independent voters. It has worked before, but not so well now. It is motivating the conservatives and putting many ‘Democrat leaners’ to sleep. Also the Media Lap-dogs have been so dishonest for so long that no thinking person believes them anymore.

Jobs and the Economy

Every month the reported economic growth has been corrected downward within a couple of weeks and the unemployment percentage has to be corrected upward. You simply can not get accurate data out of this administration. Occasional mistakes are understandable, but there is a pattern of consistent disinformation, lies, and even changing the accounting practices. Now we have seen that the unemployment has been reduced by putting healthy, but unemployed, workers on Social Security Disability. Permanent disability is paid out of Social Security funds. Also this ‘disability’ can be alcoholism, drug abuse, obesity, or now ‘mood disorders’. What is worse, Obama has reduced SSI funding by reducing the employee part to SS. So we have a flood of new recipients that have nothing really wrong with them and a lot less money for those retirees that paid into this Ponzi Scam for 50-some years. Not to mention illegal aliens are eligible now for Social Security and Disability.

Last months Unemployment is reported as 7.8%. But look at the known data. Added 190K jobs in July, UE(New Govt definition:Un-Employment) stayed above 8.1%. Added 150K jobs in August, UE stayed above 8.1%. Added 114K jobs in September, UE rate plummets to 7.8%. Obviously not true. It takes a minimum of 150K new jobs per to provide for new workers every month and there was a 36,000 short-fall. How could it go down so drastically? Someone is jiggling the numbers, again.

Update 10/7: A few commentators are now mentioning this. Sec. of Labor Hilda Solis is taking heat, and is blaming the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But will the truth come out in the 4 weeks before the election?

Obama and Romney

Ann Romney was long ago diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and has used riding, training, and showing horses as exercise-therapy to develop strength, balance, and reaction. It seems to work, she is a poised, graceful, attractive, even elegant woman. She owns several horses, including a part-ownership with her trainer and another friend, in “Rafalca”, a very valuable Dressage show-horse. MoveOn.org made a very sarcastic campaign commercial about how the Romneys spent $77,000 on Rafalca’s care, boarding, training, and transportation. The Media picked up this as a way to alienate the Romneys from most people, but generally neglected to explain that the high expenses were mostly because Rafalca was being used by the US Olympic Equestrian Team. Rafalca was ranked as high as 13th world-wide, but did not make the cut (of the top 18) for the Olympic finals, but the US team did win the Silver Medal.

On the other hand, for Spring Break the Obamas sent their 13 year old daughter to Mexico in an Air Force 757 executive airliner. At Mexico City she picked up 12 of her elite private school friends and flew to Oaxaca where the Govt rented an entire luxury hotel for the girls and Malia’s 25 man Secret Service team. Additional security was provided by local Mexican police, State police, Federal police, and Mexican Army – all of whom had to be paid for by the US Govt. Obama had asked the Media for no coverage of this trip – for reasons of security in a very dangerous country due to the drug cartels and the danger of kidnapping. The Media complied and when the story broke, they actively suppressed it and the costs involved. This 4 day jaunt for the First Daughter cost the taxpayers over a million dollars by most reports. This is during a year with a $1.4 Trillion deficit!

So the Media’s story is the Romneys spend $77,000 per year of their own money on a horse for physical therapy and lend it to the Olympic Team, and that’s bad? But the Obamas can spend over a million dollars of OUR money to send a 13 yr. old child and a dozen of her school-mates to such a dangerous place that it required so much security, for a FOUR DAY VACATION, and that’s OK? Who is the ELITIST?

Who’s side is the Media on?

A Free Press is necessary for a Free People, but the Mainstream Media is a total failure in unbiased reporting. Compare the coverage of Tea Party demonstrations and Occupy Wall Street. The Media tries hard to belittle and demonize the Tea Party, but all their demonstrations are orderly, patriotic, and calling for Constitutional govt. Public works and Parks officials have often commented that Tea Partiers leave their area cleaner than before they arrived. There have been no arrests. All of the Media’s allegations of racism or even rudeness have been dis-proven.

Occupy Wall Street has been praised and glorified by the Radical Left, Democrat Party Leaders, Obama and his minions, as well as the Liberal Media. Look at their record – violent confrontations with police, property damage, public urination and defecation- even on police cars, wide spread drug use, rapes, assaults, thefts, even murders. They regularly call for riot, revolution, Communism, the end of capitalism and Constitutional govt, kill the rich and anyone else they don’t like that day.

But the Media is still trying to convince us that the Tea Party are the dangerous ‘radicals’ that need to be stopped. They are so flagrantly biased that it defies common sense. And we can expect more: louder, shriller, and more ridiculous as the election approaches. They are the dedicated volunteers of the Obamunist Propaganda Machine.
