The September 20, 2012 meeting of the Service Club concerned mainly the upcoming Garage Sale scheduled for Saturday, November 3, 2012. The Sale will begin again at 8:00 a.m. and last until the last item on the tables have left. The hardworking Chairman of the Sale is Lydia Strakos, and she is stressing to the community at large that although we have been accepting various items for the Sale during the past several months, we are continuing to need them. As the kids are now back at school and many mothers have discovered, somewhat unhappily, that their children have grown amazingly over the Summer, perhaps those outgrown clothes can be donated to our Garage Sale. We are also looking for kitchen items of dishes, glasses, pots and pans, and wonderful baking dishes and those superb decorative bits of this and that which no longer suit your mood or decor. Tools as well as fishing gear are very welcome as are various pieces of furniture. Please contact Lydia at 983-2003 or 983-2341; her assistant Debby Busby 512- 914-9521 or our President, Janet Johnson 983-4733 to arrange for storage of these castoff or no longer necessary items.

Our member, Debby Busby told us of the joy that the Coast Guardsmen have conveyed for the monthly outgoing of cookies and brownies as baked by the various members of the Club. She also asked for an additional number of members to continue baking at least once a month. Knowing of the assistance throughout our Community that the members of the Coast Guard give, this is very small thank you for their help.

The Club is already planning for the Christmas Season. Pat Ekstrom, Chairman for the annual Christmas Luncheon for our senior citizens, announced that the entrees for the Luncheon will once again be roasted turkey accompanied by beef brisket, with members providing the side dishes and desserts. Mark Friday, December 7, 2012, on your calendar for attending the annual Senior Citizen Christmas Luncheon. You won’t want to miss this annual Christmas event!

Letters to the Dolphin

Letter to the Dolphin:

I’d like to address “Name Withheld by Request” regarding the letter about golf carts. Yes, golf carts and utility vehicles, along with automobiles, boats, etc. should be operated within the law. However, you seem to be nit-picking about the definition of golf carts.

All I can say is: SERIOUSLY???? With the economy, U.S. citizens being murdered abroad, families (possibly some of your neighbors) struggling to put food on the table, do you have nothing better to complain about?

Port O’Connor is not incorporated. I started coming here in 1969 and moved here because I love the country lifestyle and sense of community in Port O’Connor. I love being able to jump on the golf cart go somewhere and not getting my car out for days and weeks at a time, saving gas. Then people like you come down here and start complaining about the definition of golf cart?? That’s like someone coming here and then complaining about hearing airboats and gunshots because of duck hunters.

If you don’t like the way this community operates then I suggest you take your happy self back to where you came from because I’m willing to bet you aren’t from here. Find a real issue to worry about and quit trying to rain on everyone else’s parade!

Proud to sign my name…

Re: “Are We Losing America?”

I have a comment or two to make to Jim Hummel about his column Are We Losing America? in the last issue of the Dolphin Talk. You said you were a lifelong Republican until 2008. I guess that means you decided like so many others that Barack Obama was the new Hope and Change for America. That is almost understandable, because so very many people decided the same thing, and he became the first Afro-American President. But if you really used to be a Republican, after almost 4 years of Mr. Obama taking over private industry with tax payer (your) dollars, ruining the economy, escalating the national debt, creating positions for CZARS, not cabinet members, by-passing Congress repeatedly and plunging race relations back into the 19th century, how can you now say it is the Republicans who are moving us away from the Constitution?

And you consider the Tea Party to be radical? You have obviously leaped conveniently from a RINO (Republican In Name Only) to a total liberal democrat. How can you NOT see the new breed of Republicans (the Tea Party) are winning elections all over the nation because they want to go back to a Constitutional Republic? Is it radical to go back to THAT? We were never intended to be a democracy.

Your slippery slope quote is very well known to all of us who are worried about just that very thing. The problem is, it is NOT the Tea Party that is taking us down that path. Somehow you have been blinded by the lies of the Obama administration and of course the media encourages that. I blame the media for more people being ignorant and mad all the time, than I do the people we elect to represent us, who when elected go ahead and do whatever they want to, just stay in power.

At this point in history though, I think you should be more worried about the slippery slope of sliding into Islam, than the semantics of whether we are a Christian nation or not. No one wants to talk about it, no one wants to think about it, no one wants to believe it, but that does not mean it is not always a continuous threat. Islam reminds me of a termite colony…it works tirelessly and relentlessly, and no one really sees it or thinks about it until all of a sudden the structure is compromised and then the entire foundation collapses. But by then of course, it is too late and everyone says, “OMG! We never even knew they were there.”

Letter to Editor:

CCCC held its 4th summer series at Faye Sterling Park under cloudy dark skies. At first the group was small, but by five p.m. we had about 150 or more people in attendance. Scheduled were various events which included the presentation of Mr. Ray Davila being recognized as Outstanding Citizen and being presented the key to the City by Mayor Jack Whitlow. Mr. Davila and his family members have been good family role models, contributors, and strong supporters to this community and organizations.

Scheduled also was a jalapeno eating contest, but much to our surprise there were no takers; even though antacid medication and milk would be made available.

The Grito Contest ended in a tie with Gabby Correa of Cuero, Texas and Alex Hernandez, Jr. candidate for State Representative.

The breaking of the Piñata and its goodies were enjoyed by the children.

Ann Smith’s, The Dance Company provided dances from the Region of Nuevo Leon, Mexico and closed the fiesta with the Jarabe Tapatio in celebration of El deiz y seis de Septiembre, Mexico’s Independence Day.

Music was provided by Robert Ojeda and Bronze. Included in the group with Mr. Ojeda is Carla Jones, vocalist; Arturo Foncesca on drums,; Raymond Moreno on guitar; J. Orta on key board. They continue to play a variation of music, whether it is Tejano, country and western, or the golden oldies. They provide music for everyone’s enjoyment.

In visiting with people in attendance, comments were thanks for such an enjoyable, relaxed evening, good entertainment, and providing something for the visiting people. We had people from Galveston, Victoria, Cuero, Jackson County, and Colorado. The visitors were able to enjoy tacos and tamales at the fiesta or had the option to go across the street to Texas Traditions for an excellent variety of food on their menu, or homemade desserts, stroll downtown and shop in the unique stores.

The Calhoun County Culture and Cuisine would like to thank, for the support and participation of Dallas Franklin, Russell Cain, Ralph Cormier; Anita G. Fricke, Wes Wyatt, Mayor Jack Whitlow.

Prosperity Bank and International Bank of Commerce of Port Lavaca for their give-aways, Asian Magic for hair cut gift certificates and Paul Guzman of El Patio for gift certificate for our drawings.

But most of all thanks to the people in attendance which help us make this a continued success.

It is the goal of the CCCC to feature various different ethnic groups each month. Next month, will be the German Oktoberfest. If you would like to feature, serve a German dish, or help provide entertainment, please give us a call. Next event will be Saturday, October 27.

Prayers for Clint

I just wanted to give everyone a little update on how our son, Clint Williams is doing since his motorcycle accident in Germany back in July. Clint has been traveling weekly to San Antonio from Port O’Connor for medical appointments. He has once again scored above average on the tests they gave him. He is making wonderful progress and the doctors are expecting a full recovery to occur once his skull replacement surgery is completed, hopefully in October or November. Thank you all for the continued prayers for our sons progress and recovery, it has really meant a lot to all of us!

My Two Cents Worth

Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. I have seen jobs being done in POC and Houston, and I am sure they are the same all over our country. What I see are men pouring slabs for new houses, men framing those houses, men putting roofs on those same houses. Men working the non-union docks in Houston. Men working at Hormel meat packing plant in Austin. Men working at Pilgrim Pride chicken plants.
The problem is that most of this work is performed by illegals. That’s my two cents worth.

G.B. Robertson

Assault Weapons Ban

I just read James Hummel’s letter concerning “assault weapons.” While he may know about hunting in Wisconsin, he evidently doesn’t know much about hunting in South Texas. If he were to be charged by wild hogs like my son was some time back while hunting near Mission Valley , he would be wishing he had an “assault rifle” with a large capacity clip. Two shots aren’t enough to bring down a pack of wild hogs. You don’t have time to jack cartridges in the chamber or reload. You can very easily be hurt or killed by hogs. Too, if someone is trying to get into my home, I would want more than two shots if necessary. Some shooters just enjoy collecting and shooting this type of rifle, just like some people like to have a 200 m.p.h. car. No one needs a 200 m.p.h. car, but they still sell them.

He also has serious flaws in his support for banning semi-automatics and large capacity clips. Those who support such laws always forget that such laws only affect the law-abiding citizen. The criminals and insane ignore the law anyway and will always will be able to illegally get anything they want. The shooter in Aurora had already broken several laws, so why would more help? Don’t encourage giving up our freedoms as you will just give impetus to those who want to ban all firearms.

A 2nd Amendment Supporter

A point by point comparison in response to Great Reasons to Support “Mittens” by James Hummel, September 14th edition:

Great Reasons to Support Obama

1. He’s “articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” according to Joe Biden. When he first took office, he embarked on an overseas “apology tour” on taxpayers money which offended the sensibilities of US Citizens who are proud of the exceptionalism of their country.

He has offended our longtime closest friend and ally, Great Britain, on numerous occasions: removing a bust of Churchill from the Oval Office, giving “thoughtful” gifts of DVDs and an iPod to Prime Minister Brown and Her Majesty the Queen, betraying Britain by disclosing information on her nuclear capability to secure Russia’s support for the New START Treaty, siding with Argentina during the conflict between Britain and Argentina over the Falklands, and declaring France as our strongest friend and ally (France? Really?). Just to name a few.

He committed to making peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians a priority from Day One of his administration, but the incongruities of his position have caused each side their “fair share” of being offended. From his U.N. impassioned call for Palestinian statehood to a threat to veto membership unless the Palestinians made peace with Israel just a year later. From refusing to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to insults about the PM caught on open mic in an exchange with France’s President Sarkozy. This just scratches the surface of the offensives both sides have endured.

2. He is rumored to have had an affair with a campaign fundraising consultant during his run for the US Senate who abruptly closed her lucrative consulting practice and moved to Martinique.

3. He refuses to release enough information to determine whether there are any scandals/skeletons in his closet. He campaigned for a more “open government” and “full disclosure,” but will not unseal his medical records, his birth records, or his passport records. His school records for the elite K-12 prep school, Punahou School, he attended in Hawaii are “lost.” His team of lawyers has blocked the release of his Occidental College records, his Columbia College records, and his Harvard Law School records. His Columbia thesis is nowhere to be found. All of his legislative records and scheduling records from his days as an Illinois State Senator are mysteriously missing.

4. He can’t deliver a speech without his teleprompter, revealing his true vision for “fundamentally transforming” the country and “redistributing the wealth” when off script. He’s shown contempt for members of the Tea Party by referring to them by the derogatory term “tea-baggers,” and for people in small-town America by claiming “they cling to guns or religion.” His campaign ads have been proven false time and time again, yet he and his surrogates continue a deceptive depiction of his opponents.

5. He appears highly intelligent and educated, but who knows what his sealed school/college records would actually reveal. By his own admission, he spent his college years seeking out and associating with known Marxists and Socialists which added another layer to the foundation that was laid by his teen mentor Frank Davis Marshall, a publiclly identified member of the Communist Party USA.

6. He smokes, he drinks, he admits using marijuana and cocaine. He touts the taxpayer TARP bailout of GM as a success of his administration despite an additional $27 billion that Treasury will need to recover in order to recoup its total investment. The government still owns 500 million shares of GM and needs to sell those shares at $54 each for the government to break even on the bailout. (GM stock closed at $24.8 on Friday 9-21-12, you do the math!). What he doesn’t include in his boasting is the closure of around 1500 GM dealerships with a job loss of approximately 63,000. Nor does he brag about preserving the UAW members’ costly pension funds at the expense of roughly 21,000 salaried employees of Delphi, a GM auto parts spin-off company, who lost the majority of their pensions, as well as their life and health insurance . And then there’s the growing list of taxpayer funded bankrupt “green energy” companies: Solyndra, Ener1, Beacon Power, Evergreen Solar, and on and on and on. Perhaps this is fodder for an additional “Great Reasons.”

7. He represents a fundamental change of government and a divisive social agenda with a belief in abortion on demand including partial and live birth. He has added more to the national debt than all 43 prior presidents before him. Gas prices have soared to an average of $3.72 from $1.85 on the day he took office. He favors investing taxpayer money into “green energy” rather than ease regulations or approve projects such as Keystone that will lead to a decreased independence on foreign oil. Unemployment remains high, job creation is stagnant. His policies of more government regulation are is stifling business growth.

8. He did not serve in the military or the reserves. Troop confidence in the overall job performance of the Commander-in-Chief has plummeted to an all- time low of 25%. He submitted a proposal to have treatment for service-connected injuries charged to veterans’ private insurance plans as a means of reducing expenses of the VA. He has implemented “catch and release” rules of engagement when capturing insurgents and policies of “cultural sensitivity” that the troops have to abide by. Combat troops are getting “sensitivity training” directly on the battlefield about his new policy on gays.

9. He claims to be a Christian. He attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Reverend Jeremiah Wright was pastor and his spiritual mentor. Rev. Wright is well known for preaching Black Liberation Theology and for his racist and anti-American rants. But he also talks about his Muslim faith and described the Muslim call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.” He has failed to issue proclamations or personal statements about Good Friday and Easter, but has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and heralding Earth Day. He has never hosted an event recognizing the National Day of Prayer, and has waged a War on Christianity with his health care mandates.

10. There are no records of who paid for his private schooling in Hawaii or his college education, records are blocked or missing as previously noted. He purchased his home and a portion of the adjacent lot in Chicago’s Hyde Park with the help of convicted felon Tony Rezko and his wife Rita.

Barack Hussein Obama’s Middle-east Policy

Barack Hussein Obama promised us in 2008 that his special relationship with Islam and Muslims would make Islamic jihad and terrorism a thing of the past. He launched a 3 year campaign of Apology Tours and ‘appeasement’. He then declared the War Against Terror over and supported the ‘Democratization’ of the Islamic countries of North Africa in what was called the “Arab Spring” of this year. The Obama Administration has long insisted that the Muslim Brotherhood was a sectarian democratic organization, but that is wishful thinking on their part, totally in conflict with their history, creed, and stated purpose. With a motto of: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope,“ and a continued commitment by some of its members to ”[destroy] Western civilization from within,” many intelligence agents and political observers warned Obama and Hillary Clinton, but their arguments fell on deaf ears. Hillary Clinton has a Senior Adviser, Huma Abedin, whose whole family have long been involved in the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamic jihad organizations. Obama and Hillary believe what they want to believe, not evidence. Egypt rapidly opted for a Sharia theocracy instead of democracy. Their purpose is to destroy Israel, throw out any American influence in Muslim countries, establish Sharia in the US and other western democracies for Muslim populations, and install a world-wide Caliphate to rule Muslims.

When democratic Muslims in Libya revolted against Gaddafi, Obama supported them, but failed to differentiate between the democratic factions and those allied with Al Qaeda. Soon the Libyan revolution was more Islamofascist than democratic, and they too are now sliding into a Sharia theocracy. The Libyan leadership and intel services warned the Obama administration of the planned attack on the Benghazi consulate 3 days before it happened. Intel services world-wide warned of planned Muslim riots in many countries on 9/11. Obama and Hillary refused to listen. They want to believe what they want to believe. Hillary issued a order that no live ammo to be issued to the Marines, or even Security Contractors, guarding embassies or consulates. The guards at Benghazi were hired by a British security outfit chosen because they were willing to go along with the ‘no live ammo’ order, they were mostly veterans of the “17th of February Brigade” Libyan militia. The Al Qaeda terrorists attacked with Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and mortars as well as assault rifles and machine-guns. There was no demonstration gone wrong, but a straight out attack. While Obama was apologizing to the Egyptians attacking our embassy there, burning our flag and replacing it with an Al Qaeda banner, Al Qaeda was killing Ambassador Chris Stevens and 3 other Americans in Benghazi.

The excuse that all these “demonstrations” were brought on solely by a amateurish, even cartoonish, movie trailer is ridiculous. This has been on You Tube since June and largely ignored. However, Bill (Pig) Maher’s movie “Religulous”, ridiculing Islam as well as Christianity and Judaism, made over $13 million. He donated $1 million to an Obama Pac, so no complaint about that. Obama is still pushing this obvious excuse (as of 9/21). There is pressure to pass “laws” limiting the First Amendment’s Free Speech. This is a long-time goal of the Liberal/Progressives, to silence anyone but the Media they control. One of the most popular chants throughout the 21 or so countries having Islamist demonstrations is, “Obama Obama, We are all Osama!”, so Obama and the DNC constantly claiming credit for Obama for the Seals’s raid that killed Osama Bin Laden may be a large factor in this Islamic hatred. Obama continues to blame the movie trailer, the Coptic Christians that made it, and with his Lap-dog Media spin the blame of on Christians, Republicans, and the Tea Party.

Why do they fear the Tea Party so much? The Tea Party is not threatening to behead those that disagree, not burning vehicles, vandalizing property, fighting with police, or having rapes, drug overdoses, and even murders at their demonstrations. They want Constitutional laws, a balanced budget, and limited government interference so the economy can grow again. Is that so bad?

Barack Hussein Obama’s foreign policy should be judged on two standards:

1. What is good for America, our economy, and American citizens.

2.What is good for the Progressive/Socialist/Internationalists that now run the now Dhimmicrat Party, and their UN Agenda.

If we listen to the Mainstream Media it is OK for foul-mouth Pig Mayer to ridicule Islam if he ridicules Christianity and Judaism also. It is always OK to slam any Christian denomination for any reason and OK for Muslims to call Jews “pigs and dogs”, but Christians that say anything bad about Jews, even irreligious Jews, are ‘Bigots’. No one is to say anything that may offend any Muslim or mention that Mohammad was a bandit, married a rich older woman for money and prestige, but later married a 6 year-old and consummated the marriage when she was 9. These are historical facts, noted in the Quran, but a Kuffur (infidel) better not mention it or they will cut his head off. Religion of Peace? I don’t think so.

The Muslim Brotherhood describes Islam best:

“Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope,“

Obama gave $500,000 in “bail” to Egypt to release Americans imprisoned during the “Arab Spring”, a further $1.5 billion to President Morsi as economic aid, and is still trying to give a Military Aid package of $3.7 billion that reputed includes buying German submarines. Is this wise? Or even rational? These are modern diesel-electric boats that are so quiet our nuclear attack subs have difficulty finding them, and they can be fitted with cruise missiles that can be launched from the surface. They would be a major threat to the eastern Mediterranean area.

We must cut off all “aid” to countries that hate us and attack our embassies. We are broke anyway and are “borrowing” the money to build up our enemies. There is major trouble brewing between China and Japan and we are bound by treaty to defend Japanese territory. (but ask the Israelis about Obama’s support for Treaty obligations) I suggest that the “Democratization” of the Middle-east is a total failure now. It was too expensive under Bush and the Neo-cons, but impossible under Obama and the Neo-Commies.

It is time for a rational pro-American foreign policy, not ideological agenda driven wishful thinking and media posturing. And same for domestic policy. Obama’s “Change” has been to reduce our economy and our influence in the world, but that is ‘anti-colonialism’.
