Ending their summer schedule of meetings only once a month on August 2nd, the Club briefly discussed several items of note.

The first was the decision of Club members to once again donate money to the staff of the Elementary School. This will help pay for various items during the coming school year as needed in the classroom that are not covered for the teachers and librarian.

Lydia Strakos, Chairman of the upcoming Garage Sale, mentioned that the date of the Sale previously scheduled in October, has been changed to Saturday, November 3rd due to a conflict. Actually, this will give more time for the accumulation of goods for the Sale. So, if any resident has items no longer needed, such as furniture, kitchen items, clothing, bedding, books, and decorations, please contact Lydia Strakos at 983-2003 or 983-2341 or Debby Busby at 512 914-9521 to arrange for storage until the Sale in November.

The meeting then concluded with the reminder from the President, Janet Johnson that the regular meeting schedule will commence on Thursday, September 6th with the election of officers and payment of annual dues.

Once again, we are pleased to welcome all community-interested women to our meetings. They are held on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of each month (beginning in September) at 10:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room of the Community Center. Please call our President, Janet Johnson at 983-4733 for further information.

Save 3 Lives When You Donate Blood!

Blood transfusions play an important role in many patients’ recovery. As a result, donors are connected to patients for life. A single donation can unite a donor with as many as three patients.

Summertime comes with a typical decline in donations for the community blood supply. As schools are out, people vacation and are unavailable to donate, the demand for blood in South Texas hospitals continues during these months. It is crucial that donors continue to donate in order to meet the demand from over 100 hospitals across 43 South Texas counties. Donors are helping patients who depend on them to battle whatever ailment they may have. Give of yourself to save lives and connect with South Texas patients for life. For more information, visit southtexasblood.org.

Upcoming Blood Drives: Wal-Mart: Friday, Aug. 17; 10:30am – 2:30pm; First United Methodist Church; 814 N. San Antonio, Port Lavaca: Wednesday, Aug. 22; 4:15pm – 6:45pm

Donors must present identification. Anyone who is 16 years old weighing 120 pounds (with parental consent form), or at least 17 years old weighing 110 pounds and in good general health may donate blood. All donors receive refreshments, a mini-physical a thank you gift and are encouraged to eat before and after donation.

Mr. & Mrs. Dan Davis

Saturday, July 7th 2012 was a very special day for Dan Davis and Kara Walker of Cypress Texas.

The couple chose the home of the groom’s parents as venue for their tropical themed wedding. The ceremony took place on the deck, overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. Dozens of well wishers in boats along the waterway shouted their congratulatory wishes as the ceremony began.

Judge Nancy Pomykal, Justice of the Peace officiated the romantic wedding service.

Kara is the daughter of Robin and Nicki Lowe of Ballinger, TX. Dan is the son of Joyce and Bill Raab of Port O’Connor.

After returning from their honeymoon in Cozumel, the newlyweds will continue to reside in Cypress.
