Port O’Connor Fishing Report by Capt. Bob Hill

Kristian Saylor of Blanco and his grandparents Susie and Robert Jones of Spring Branch caught many different species on a rather slow day at the jetties. -Capt. Bob Hill, Port O’Connor Charters

The Summer is really speeding by. It seems like Memorial Day, 4th of July and POCO Bueno all happened within a week of each other. The fishing has been pretty good most of the Summer but the last few weeks have been a bit tough. South and southwest winds don’t help and even though we need it, the rain has made things a little more complicated. I think San Antonio Bay will soon see a lot of runoff that will hurt the shell fishing down there.

The deeper reefs have been giving up trout but I’ve been more successful along the grass shorelines for both reds and trout. Certainly nothing spectacular but some fish here and there.

In the lakes its mainly redfish. The hard south winds blow a lot of water out and I think that sends a lot of the trout to deeper water.

The surf is full of fish but it’s been too rough for me to get out there. Some guys have ventured out and caught a few but its awfully dangerous for the smaller boats.

The Jetties have been on and off. It seems the times when the current is running have been best. Shrimp has been best but cut mullet and sardines are beginning to work as well.
