“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” The church has been beautifully decorated by our Spanish speaking congregants. Chrismas baskets are being put together by the Community Benevolence Committee, which are made possible by many generous donors. (It’s not too late to help!) Christmas messages are being preached, not only by Pastor Erny, but also by Larry and Julie Phelps, Brother Jessie Alderete, and Patrick Overton. The big, all-church party is being planned and almost ready. The hay ride and caroling is about to take place. The special Christmas service is being readied. Everything has been planned because we are celebrating Jesus’ Birthday!
Those in need of Christmas Baskets from the Port O’Connor Benevolence Committee need to contact the church office (983-4240) no later than Sunday, December 18. We will not be able to provide a basket for those who miss this deadline. We want to help every needy family in our community, and we trust that no “greedy ones” will apply.
Everyone is invited to the Annual All-Church Christmas party to be held on Sunday, December 18 at 6:00 p.m. It will be a “pot-blessing” meal. (Everyone just bring something good to eat.) And everyone should bring a “white elephant gift” for exchanging. This is always a highlight of our yearly calendar, and we would love to have you be here!
There will be Friday Night Youth (FNY) this Friday evening, December 16, from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m. It will be an evening of special events due to the Christmas focus. All area youth are welcomed.
On Wednesday, December 21, at 7:00 p.m., we will be loading the hay wagon for caroling around town. If you know of someone who wishes to be caroled to or you want to enjoy this special activity with us, just let us know!
On Christmas Day, we invite you to bring your family to the Chapel for a special Christmas Service. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. (there will be no Sunday Bible study) and will be a time of recognizing Jesus’ Birthday. Whatever else you have planned for Christmas, plan it around this special service, and you and your family will be blessed!
On New Year’s Day, we are likewise planning a special service to begin the New Year right. So as to not take away from our family activities, that service on January 1 will begin at 10:30 a.m. with everyone coming together to ask for the Lord’s leadership and blessings as we face an unknown year. We want to ask the Lord to make 2012 the best year we have ever experienced. Please come and add your prayers to ours!
Fisherman’s Bible Institute (FBI) is still going strong with about a dozen people taking time to study God’s Word together. If you would like to become a part of FBI, please contact Pastor Joane at 983-2619 for further information.
The next Sea Academy class will begin on January 27 and run through February 3, 2012. These classes prepare students to receive their Coast Guard approved “Captain’s Licenses” so they can guide fishing parties. All those interested in these classes should contact instructor, Captain Robert, at 361/816-3010 or the Sea Academy at 361/785-6184.
Many people have recently asked me what an “interdenominational” church is. We are a group of Christians who are of different denominations, who do no wish to change our church ties, but just to join together in a time of praise in an atmosphere of Christian love. We do not stress denominations because we believe the Church is made up of all true Christians regardless of their church affiliations. Our text from which we study and preach will always be God’s Word. Fisherman’s Chapel is a place you can come and not have to join to be a part. You will always find a warm welcome at the Chapel and are urged to, “Come, grow with us!”
