Darla Heath, Seadrift Chief of Police

Darla Heath, Seadrift Chief of Police

I would like to say I feel blessed to take on this new role as Chief of Police with the City of Seadrift. My goal as Chief is to improve the relationship the Police Department has with the community and be transparent with the citizens of Seadrift. I will be working closely with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office for continuous coverage of our city until we are back to being fully staffed.

Community Service Projects:  Each month the Ladies of the Service Club donate nonperishable food items to the POC Food Bank at Fisherman’s Chapel; volunteer their time at the weekly Senior Citizen’s Luncheons; and this month will furnish baked goods for the First Baptist’s Church’s Youth Bake Sale on June 17, 2023 to raise money for Church Camp.  In keeping with the tradition of honoring POC citizens who are no longer with us, the Club made a donation to the POC Cemetery Association in memory of David Joe Hickl.

Back To School Clothing Sale:  The Service Club will be having a “Back To School Clothing Sale” for Elementary through High School students on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the POC Community Center Pavilion from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, or until sold out.  We will sell other “Back to School” items if available.  There will be lots of bargains, and all are invited!

Farmers Market:  The Service Club appreciates your support at our Booth at POC’s Farmers Market, held the 2nd Saturday of every month; next one being Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  We always have a variety of homemade goodies, plants, hand crafted items, our “Service Club Cookbooks“ and our “POC- End of The Road” License Plate Covers.  We will also be selling raffle tickets of $5.00 each for a beautiful handmade quilt named “American Pride” donated by Club Member, Carol Haverfield.  There is something for everyone, so please stop by!!

Meetings:  The Service Club meets only once each month during Summer, with meetings on the first Thursday of each month- next ones are July 6, 2023 and August 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the POC Community Center.  All Ladies are welcome!

Garage Sale:  The Ladies continue to accept your generous donations of household, kitchen, and decorative items; small appliances; clothes; shoes; toys; children’s and baby items, etc. Due to limited space, we cannot accept furniture until our next Garage Sale, which is scheduled for September 30, 2023!!  You can leave your items in the “Drop Box”  at the front of our Donation Center, or, to donate larger items, please contact one of the Service Club Ladies listed below:

The Calhoun County Republican Club will be hosting Terri Hall, on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Drifters Hall, 5287 Fm 3084, Port Lavaca, TX 77979

Terri Hall is the Founder & Director of the San Antonio Toll Party and Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (Texas TURF).

TURF is an all-volunteer, all grassroots organization committed to defending property rights and our freedom to travel. TURF opposed the use of stimulus funds for toll roads (a TRIPLE TAX scheme), which got national coverage by the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Fox News. TURF helped repeal the Trans Texas Corridor, defeated dozens of bad bills in the Legislature, advocated against the Left’s anti-car agenda, and passed protections against tolling existing roads among other reforms. She invites you to learn more and to join the fight at www.TexasTURF.org.

A catered meal is available at 5:00 p.m. for $12 with a reservation. Please call (361) 552-6313 or email CCRCLUB@proton.me to RSVP for dinner or for more information.

Ragusin
It’s been 17 years since two lives were lost in a house fire. The Ragusin family will never forget the kindness of our family, friends, and kind people that came to the Grand Slam Fishing Tournament in memory of our son Chris.

The organization that was held for 9 years helped many Calhoun graduates to start their first semester of college by giving scholarships to more than fifty students. Also, the organization helped cancer patients and local residents that needed financial assistance.

The Ragusin Family wants to thank Port O’Connor, Seadrift, and the surrounding towns that gave selflessly their time to cook, set up, sell T-shirts, koozies, raffle tickets, and help with clean up. We also want to thank all of our wonderful friends who donated items to the live and silent auctions as well as purchase items.

We would have not gotten through the loss of our son without all of the family and friends’ support in making this event happen. There are too many people to mention and thank, but you know who you are.

We thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. In closing keep in mind Psalm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd…”

Love, The Calvin & Sally Ragusin Family
