Following the opening of the meeting on Thursday, September 15th by President, Janet Johnson, another new member was introduced to the membership. Kelly Gee Cooper has recently moved to our area; and she will probably be immediately put to work.

The Club had previously made a donation for the benefit of Jacque Bechard to help with the purchase of a prosthesis, and has made an additional donation this day to the United Way. All the monies donated by an organization in Port O’Connor to the United Way are used exclusively for the benefit of residents of this area.

Lydia Strakos, Chairman of the biannual garage sales, announced that the Fall Sale would occur on Saturday, October 15th. The Sale will be held in the Pavilion at the Community Center with an opening time of 8:00 a.m. that morning. Arrangements for storage of usable items can be made by contacting either Lydia at 983-2341 (work), 983-2003 (home) or 920-5088 (cell) or Debbie Busby at 983-4101 (home) or 512 914-9521 (cell). Items being accepted are clothing for all ages, books and cds, kitchen ware, glasses and dishes, bedding, and some electronics. So as you decide to empty that closet of too much, or rearrange cabinets with less, do put aside those items for the Sale.

The biannual Garage Sale and accompanying Bake Sale are one of our major money-making projects that are used to fund annual scholarships for our local high school graduates and donations to many causes as well as the annual Christmas Luncheon to acknowledge our Senior residents. And members were warned to dig out their favorite cookbooks to find their special recipes to prepare for the Bake Sale that is held under the Chairmanship of Sally Ragusin. She will be calling each member to learn of their preference in baking for this event.

If any resident of this Community would like to become a part of this very active organization, please contact either Shirley Gordon, Membership Chairman, 983-4365 or Janet Johnson, President, 983-4733 for further information. We welcome any and all interested women at our meetings that are held the first and third Thursdays of the month beginning this September. Our next meeting will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the back meeting room of the Community Center. Do plan to come and say hello and learn of some of our upcoming activities.
