Seadrift – Nettie May went to rejoin “the love of her life” Fred May on September 13, 2011. She left behind a family who will remember and hold within them the love she shared throughout her life.

Nettie was born in Marlin, Oklahoma on May 15, 1926 to Ira and Eula Watrous and moved to Houston shortly after, where she was raised and the family grew. She moved to Seadrift in 1952 where her husband Fred went to work for Union Carbide. There she fished until her heart’s content.

Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Ira and Dicky Watrous.

She leaves behind her daughter, Brenda Dworaczyk and son-in-law, Martin; grandsons, Shawn Dworaczyk (Donna) and Shane Dworaczyk (Vicki); great-grandchildren, Hope, Brittany, Dakota, Riley, Cierra, Blair and Shayna; great-great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Tallen and Brilen; sisters, Renee Gray, Mary Lawrence, Thela Garner (Clifton), and Sylvia Bliss; and brother, Marion Waltrous (Audrey).

Funeral service was held at the Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home Chapel on September 16. Burial followed at Seadrift Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Shawn, Shane, Dakota, Craig Lambright, John Fellers and JD (Buddy) Cross.

Honorary pallbearers were Martin Dworaczyk and Donald Harned.

The family of Nettie would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Wright, Cherise Bludau-Branch and the staff at Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehab and Trinity Shores.

Norma “Jean” Hudler, 83, of Victoria passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011. Jean was born on July 2, 1928 in Victoria to the late E.N. “Booby” Koch and Frankie Grimsinger Koch. Jean was a graduate of Nazareth Academy and attended Victoria Jr. College. She was a former active member of Victoria Jaycees and Riverside Golf Association.

Survivors: husband, Robert L. Hudler of Victoria; daughters, Cindy Hudler of San Antonio, Susan Hudler (Steve Bell) of Port O’Connor; sons, Wayne Hudler of Austin and Tommy Hudler of Victoria; sister, JoAnn Pickering and husband George “Budda” of Victoria, and their children, George and Mark; brother, John Koch and wife Janelle of Port O’Connor; and their children, Robert and Jamie; and grandchildren, Taylor and Alyssa Hudler of Austin.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Sept. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Gregory Dean officiating.  Memorial: Alzheimer’s Assoc. Words of comfort may be left to the family at colonialfuneralhomevictoria.com.

A 30 cubic yard Roll-off Bin will be located behind the fence on 16th and Harrison for Port O’Connor MUD customers to bring bulky waste to be hauled off.

The bin will be there for one day: Friday, October 21, 2011.

The bin may be used from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. MUD customers only may deposit large objects like carpet, furniture, mattresses, stoves, etc.

Auto batteries may be left outside the bin along with metal objects. MUD customers must sign in with their name and Port O’Connor physical address. No commercial waste; this is for residential waste only. No paint, tires, gas cans, or any unacceptable waste in the bin.

“Some of our own students from Gonzales were affected by those fires,” said DeLaGarza who coordinated donations with members of the local Pink Fire Truck Guardians of the Ribbon. Victoria’s Pink Fire Truck Guardians delivered donated items to a shelter near Smithville.

“It’s unbelievable how quickly VC faculty, staff and students stepped up to help,” added DeLaGarza. “It warms my heart that Victoria College is sending this message—that we will give to help our neighbors in need.”
