Best-Bloody-Mary--Crawfish-Lives-Matter
Best Bloody Mary Crawfish Lives Matter

Well, there’s a reason they call them ‘Mudbugs’!! Despite the torrential winds and downpour, the night before, we were still able to pull it off! The morning of, we found standing water, battered banners, mud, and a lot of people ready to make the best of what we were faced with! Booths had to be moved around, tents and canopies did not get put up because of the wind and some vendors had to move to the street. However, the setback did not stop the crowd…. They were in POC and ready to get Cray Cray!!
We had 40 cooking teams registered this year. The competition was fierce and fun! The winner of the Champion Boiled Crawfish was team Bayou Outlaws, 2nd Place went to the Cajun Mullets and 3rd place went to the Bohemian Boilers. For Best Side Dish, the winner was PSP for their Cream Crawfish Etouffee Potato, 2nd place went to Claws Up for their Crawfish Cream Cheese Ragoon, and 3rd place went to Burn N Bills for their Crawfish Stack. Another contest that gets VERY creative is the Bloody Mary contest. In this contest, judging is based on a presentation Bloody Mary as well as the liquid content. This year’s winner goes to team Crawfish Lives Matter, while 2nd place went to Driveway Drinkers and 3rd place went to Claws Up. Best Decorated Booth was won by Let the Good Times Boil. Although, there are selected judges for Crawfish entries, attendees also had an opportunity to pick their favorite. The People’s Choice award this year went to team Heads or Tails. This contest winner also received a 10% payout, of which they received over $2400.
Along with the cooking contests, we also had a Crawfish Eating Contest, sponsored by POC Rod & Gun. Winners were 1st Place, Ryan Lott (31 in 60 sec.) and 2nd Place, Taylor Scharck (29 in 60 sec.) while 3rd place went to Joe Chatham (19 in 60 sec.). Our first Cornhole Tournament was sponsored by Frio Coolers this year. This will be an added attraction annually. Our annual Horseshoe Tournament, hosted by Dwayne and Terry Twoomy, was again a success with winners being Doug Payne & Josh Wisnoski.
Music this year was our returning friend, Boudreaux, who is now joined with Poussom! Their awesome Zydeco music had toes tapping and dancing going on! Thank you to our own Scott Brown and the Texas Dream for arranging and making our music and sound production show so fabulous. Music had to be moved under the pavilion this year, due to water, but was a hit for those relaxing and enjoying their crawfish plates.
Speaking of Crawfish Plates, we sold 3200 lbs of Crawfish this year! Thank you to the Crawfish Croux for coming to POC and cooking for us… they do a great job!! Also, we want to give a huge shout out to Glen & Sherry Kusak with Farm Pac Kitchens who let us use their refrigerated keg trailers for our beer. This change allowed us to have two beer stations, thus shortening the beer lines.
An enhearten thank you to all our Judges, Volunteers and Sponsors. As this is the Chamber’s major fundraiser for the year, we are dependent on all of you. Without your help and support, this event would not be possible. It takes many months of dedicated work to make sure it runs smoothly. Again, thank you so much. Make sure to mark your calendar for next year, April 27th…. Always the last Saturday in April! Please go to and like our POC Chamber of Commerce Facebook and the POC Crawfish Fest and Cook-Off Facebook pages to see all the pics from this awesome day and updates for next year! Until then, Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU FROM THE POC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
As you well know, it takes over 100 volunteers to put this Festival on every year. Without these volunteers, we would not have this successful event. We want to pay a very special thanks to the POC Community Service Club for again stepping up and offering their assistance with selling drink tickets. We appreciate all of you so much!!!
