We are looking forward to a great Memorial Day weekend! We begin at 10:00 a.m. with our Bible Study. During that morning service, Evangelist Rod Vincent will be our guest for that one service only. Many of you have heard this special minister and will want to be a part of this service. It will be power-packed, God-anointed, and Cajun style!

In the evening service on May 29, we will be honoring our Fisherman’s Bible Institute graduates. We will be having an All Church Fellowship with a “pot luck meal” and a time to honor those who have expended a lot of hard work and long hours of study to complete this course. You will be inspired to become a part of FBI when we begin a new course of lessons this fall.

The Reverend Joane has just completed a series of messages concerning “Bridging The Gap”. The seven parts of this message ranged from how to relate to those who are close to us, to how to deal with those who are an irritant to us! It was great information. Those desiring her notes are welcomed to call Joane at 983-2619 for further information. We believe one day this material will become a published book!

We were honored to be a part of the Warrior’ Weekend here in Port O’Connor. Our part was to provide the breakfast for Saturday morning. With many donations and a lot of volunteer help, we provided breakfast tacos for everyone who came through the lines. We fixed well over 850 tacos and heard many good comments concerning them. I personally got to greet some of the warriors as they came through the lines and enjoyed that part of the weekend more than any other. Thank you, Warrior’s Committee, for inviting us to participate! Thank you who donated all the things that went into making the taco breakfast. Thank you who came out to help break 100-dozen eggs, cook the 110 pounds of sausage, those who worked to make the tacos, and those who were there to help serve our honored guests. This task was “way too large” for the Chapel to do by ourselves, but all of you helped make it happen. Thank you!

Our ladies are meeting each Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. to study the book Search for Significance. Robert McGee is the author and the ladies have made some great strides forward as they are learning more about themselves and the relationships they have chosen. It is a great time of learning and fun, and all women are invited to attend.

Due to all of the summer activities, Friday Night Youth will be having some schedule changes. We will be having FNY this Friday, May 27, and then on June 10 and 17. The Chapel has a full schedule, but we want all our kids to know that we love them and will have FNY every time we can! Thanks, kids, for understanding and participating when we have FNY! Join the Calhoun County Historical Commission (CHC) for a workshop featuring the Cemetery Preservation and Historical Markers programs of the Texas Historical Commission (THC). THC staff will conduct a workshop on successful research and applications for the Historic Texas Cemetery (HTC) designation and for obtaining an Official Texas Historical Marker.

The free workshop is open to the public and will be held Wednesday, June 15, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. An RSVP is required for participation.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Victoria chapter, participated in the recent 2011 NAMI Walk in Houston to help raise awareness and break the stigma associated with brain chemistry disorders.

NAMI offers a free presentation, “In Our Own Voice”, available to the local community. This is another way NAMI reaches out to the community, doing these presentations in schools, churches, law enforcement, etc. It is very important for the community to learn about brain chemistry disorders and to know that recovery is possible. NAMI will hold a meeting on May 31 at 6:30 p.m. at DeTar North in the North Education Center next to the Grape Cafe. The educational Charlie Rose DVD on the “Mentally Ill Brain” will be shown.

Support Group Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at Laurent Towers in Victoria at 6:00 p.m.

Many of the wounded warriors enjoyed night fishing at The Sanctuary. And local volunteers enjoyed assisting and visiting with them.

How windy is it? Its so windy that ……… Actually the question is “How much longer is it going to blow?” We haven’t had a cold front in a while so at least the wind has been from the south so the tides have been high enough to get around in the lakes where you can sort of get out of the wind.

The hot trout action on the San Antonio Bay shell reefs has cooled down under pressure from the southerly “breezes”. If we do get a reprieve some time soon that action should once again provide some nice boxes of trout. The south shorelines of San Antonio and Espiritu Santo Bays have been shielded from the wind and waders have caught trout on artificials and live bait. The croakers are still small but they are getting a little bigger each week, good news for the “Croaker Soakers”.

The back lakes have saved many a fishing trip over the last few weeks. Reds are the main attraction. Drifting with live shrimp or anchoring near a shoreline and using cut bait has provided redfish limits for many boats. There are some trout in the back but most of the trout are coming from sand bottom shorelines. If the wind eases, look for traditional spots like Grass Island or Coast Guard Flats to turn on. The jetties have been good for those able to handle the rough water. Getting across the bay hasn’t been all that bad but the seas have been in the 4 to 5 foot range under the south and southeast wind.
