The Luther Hotel on Palacios’ bayfront is the oldest remaining wooden hotel on the Gulf Coast. It has a Texas Historical Marker and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Built in 1903, the hotel was important during World War II, when 16,000 troops were stationed at Camp Hulen and were entertained by many celebrities in the Luther Hotel ballroom.
The building could be demolished any day to make room for a new hotel on the bayfront. An offer is being presented by a group of hotel preservation investors to preserve the old hotel.
The Palacios Preservation Committee is asking all those interested in preserving history to sign their petition:

TEAM KIDS is in full swing again after the holidays. Each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. we see happy faces, empty stomachs, and minds eager to learn about Jesus. There is dinner, Bible study and recreation for first through fifth graders. If you know a child who would like to attend, POC Elementary has information or you can visit the Face Book page for First Baptist Church POC. Transportation is available. Every child needs to Learn God’s word and fellowship with others. Enroll your child today.
Youth (sixth through twelfth graders) also meet on Wednesday at 5:30 if they want dinner and 6:00 if not. Our Youth Minister, Bro. Raymond Grant, is in charge of this age group. Besides Bible study and recreation, they participate in community service projects and attend church camp in the summer, among other things. All are welcome.
Samaritan’s Purse is an all year, ongoing project. Christmas boxes filled with gifts are sent to children in over 100 countries around the world. Items are collected and stored until it’s time to fill the boxes. Meetings are held throughout the year to make items to include as gifts. As you shop, look for items on clearance that are small enough to fit in the boxes (i.e. bar soap, combs, brushes, socks, small toys, t-shirts, flip flops, sewing kits, small tool sets, school supplies, material, yarn, crochet hooks, colors, etc).
Donations of money are also needed to cover the cost of sending the packages around the world. Thank you for supporting this wonderful cause.
FBC also collects all year for the POC Food Pantry. Any non-perishable food items are accepted. There are baskets in our foyer waiting to be filled. This is a much needed ministry in POC. Many families and individuals are in need of a helping hand.
We are waiting to welcome you to any of our activities. Come join us. In addition to those mentioned already, we have:
Sunday school for adults and children 10;00 A.M.

Bible Study (women 4:00 & men 7:00) Tuesday
