CHAPEL  HAPPENINGS by Erny McDonough

What a grand time we had as we closed out another great school year. Personally, we cherished the accomplishments of the Seniors at Calhoun, and  we saw that over 90% of our graduates having obtained Texas Scholar status! The outpouring of scholarships (over $1.9 million) must surely be a record! Personally, we had another of our grandchildren being graduated – our own Connor Cobb! He is an outstanding scholar and the MVP of the High School Basketball team! He is headed to Kingsville to attend University training there! If you are wondering, we think we have a very GRAND, GRANDSON!

Mothers’ Day was extra special, for it was also my birthday – yes 29 again! My sister, Ruth Anna, from Bartlesville, Oklahoma surprised me by just walking into the Chapel just as we were about to begin our Bible Class. I had no idea she was in Texas and certainly did not expect her and Don to walk in unannounced! They were only here for a couple of days, but their attendance surely blessed their brother and his family! In fact, three (3) of our four (4) children were home and a bunch of our grandchildren! It was truly a delight to enjoy a large family meal together!

We were honored to host the leadership team of a Christian Club from Huntsville’s Sam Houston University. Collin and his staff were blessed with a fellowship meal on Wednesday (in which we all shared) and a Breakfast before they left on Friday. They are always an inspiration when they come, and we witness their commitment to “give a year for service to the Lord and pray about a life-time.” Many missionaries are commissioned from this great group of youth. When we feel this generation is moving away from the things of the Lord, we see the fruit of investing in Campus Ministries!

June began with an abundance of “give aways!” we had a donation of a U-Haul trailer filled with furniture bless us. We found homes for two (2) kingsize beds and many other very nice things. Thanks Monty and Julie for your gifts to our community! One of our local stores had a freezer problem and gave us an over abundance of ice cream. None of it was wasted! We “gave out all we could and ate the rest!” There were many of our residents who left the Chapel very satisfied! Thank you, Dollar General and Stacy for your generosity! Then came the corn! On Wednesday, we were told of a farmer in our area who had an abundance of sweet corn about to get past its prime. We rallied “the troops” and we went on Thursday (June 5), about a dozen of us, and totally filled our pickup and three cars with corn. Then we had the privilege of passing it out! We had people come to the Chapel to retrieve some, we had people driving around passing it out, we had some of our youth walking around giving corn to our neighbors, we had some on bicycles sharing the bounty – everybody helped, and we gave it all away and hear many people expressing their appreciation!

Do not believe for a minute that we have already filled out missions for the summer. We are gleaning from the tournaments, both fish and prepared food this week and looking forward to helping with others before our schools begin. Some of our kids are going to Camp. We are looking toward many special activities because we want to share the love of Jesus in as many different ways as possible!

Father’s Day is large on our calendar of events each year. Again, Marty’s Landing is providing some very special gifts that we will be sharing with our men. Nothing says “Fisherman’s Chapel” like our Father’s Day gifts! Thank you, Marty, for your generosity!

If you wonder what Fisherman’s Chapel is doing, you will always find a warm welcome here. Each Lord’s Day (Sunday) we gather at 10 AM for Bible Class, at 11 AM for our Morning Service and again at 6 PM for Evening Service. At each of these services, one will enjoy singing and hearing a message from the Throne Room of our Lord. On Wednesdays, we begin at 7 PM with a fellowship meal (last week we feasted on smoked turkey, dressing, salads, and of course PIE)! We follow that time with a message from God’s Table, the Word of God. It is a great way to have a refreshing time in the middle of the week. All are invited and urged to, “Come, Grow With Us!”
