The Hooked on Books Club at their March meeting.

The Hooked on Books Club at their March meeting.

March’s Book Club meeting proved to be a fabulous afternoon, and great fun!!  Hostesses Brenda Berger, Jo Beth Staff, and Darla Miles followed the theme of our book, Blood and Money, to a “T”, complete with Chocolate Eclairs, tablecloths with mock bloody handprints, hundred-dollar bill napkins, and petri dishes scattered about the room!!  So Awesome, and So much FUN!!! Attendees enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, fruit, desserts, and beverages while chatting, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.
Afterward, we got serious and held a long and in-depth discussion about Blood and Money, its characters, and the long and winding story of power, money, bribery, death, murder, deceit, and greed, with the threads of high society and low life of the underworld intertwining and colliding in Houston, Texas in the late 60’s and early 70’s.  The discussion was passionate and engaging, with lots of pros and cons on the subjects, and even a vote on the guilt or innocence of the doctor in his wife’s death!!  The majority found him guilty!!!!  All agreed it was a great book, even if long and detailed, and it proved to be a great book for Book Club discussion!!  Great Job, Hostesses!!!
The Book Club’s next meeting will be on April 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., and our book is Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. If you would like to join “Hooked On Books”, please email your contact information to alanehaardt@yahoo.com.  All are welcome!!

Dr. Seuss Day – POC students enjoyed a morning of fun activities that included hearing Dr. Seuss stories, eating green eggs and ham, face painting, observation and touch station, water safety, taking care of our teeth, making fish prints with paint, and picture taking. Thanks again to all of our volunteers and community members that helped make this a success.

Seadrift is honored and extremely proud of the fact that its City Crew was awarded the Best of the Best Most Helpful Employees in 2021 award. (Yearly poll conducted by the Port Lavaca Wave and voted on by its readers.)

We are sure that if you were to ask any of the city crew how they did it, they would tell you it wasn’t easy. They could tell you stories of how they tackled a lot of obstacles in helping the Seadrift Community!

The Seadrift City Crew operate the water and sewer plants. They maintain the harbor, all parks, streets, and drainage. They continue to help residents after hours as needed.

The City Crew wants everyone to know they appreciate all the support from the community.

birthday
Some years ago, Port O’Connor had an active Bridge Club, and Mary Nell McGee (2022 Citizen of the Year) was graciously invited to join, even though she did not know how to play.

Mary Nell learned the game and enjoyed the camaraderie with these lovely local ladies. Pictured above, Mary Nell is given a birthday party by the Bridge Club.
