The Calhoun County /Republican Club, at its last meeting, elected new officers. The following will serve a two-year term:

President: Russell Cain
Vice-President: Carol Stewart
Sec/Treas: Connie Hunt

At their May meeting, Sheriff Vickery and Judge Mayer gave excellent talks on the situation at the border. The Club will be sending a group to testify before the August Redistricting Committee. They feel they desperately need a Coastal Bend District and would very much like Todd Hunter to be the District Representative
.
The Club meets monthly and dues are $25 per person, per year.

If you are interested in being a part, please contact Connie Hunt at chunt36@yahoo.com.

I doubt that I am accomplishing as much, but it surely seems to take me longer to accomplish the same tasks! I know the cause could not possibly be age because I am 29 again for at least the 4th time! I am almost getting the hang of being this young and feel very sorry for those who must add a year to their age each birthday! Thanks for all the cards, gifts, and well wishes I have received!

Mother’s Day week was especially busy. For the first time in about 20 years, I preached the Mother’s Day message. I took the liberty of making it my article (on page 6) and trust that it will bless all you Moms, plus encourage the rest of us. On Tuesday, it was off to Houston, where we helped dedicate our new District Ministry building that evening. It was an honor to see my name on the cornerstone. Oh Wednesday, we served as the Ordaining Elder for Pastor Barbara Reemers of Yorktown. What a blessing. then I received a specially designed pin to denote my 50 years as an Ordained Minister. Actually, on March 16, I celebrated 57 years as a credentialed preacher of the Gospel – been preaching all my life!

On Thursday, Pastor Joane and I traveled to Dallas to be a part of the graduation of Pastor James McNatt from Christ for the Nations. It was a wonderful day and one he will never forget. It was hurry back home after that so we could be ready for services on May 16. Not a dull moment! On Monday, May 17, I met with some pastors who are considering a new work in our area. Since we have pioneered two different churches, I am always excited when people want to talk about beginning a new church.

On Wednesday, we will be hosting a new missionary couple, Jason and Lindsey Goldsberry. They have been to the Chapel on several occasions, but this is the first time since their missionary appointment. They are planning to go to the nation of Chile. The service will begin at 7:00 p.m. and all are welcome!

Our Egg Cracking Party will be at the Chapel on Friday, May 21, at 6:00 p.m. We have only about 1,000 eggs to get ready to make 500 breakfast tacos on Saturday, May 22. This is a part of the Warrior’s Weekend and we will be serving at the Community Center. YES, we alwlays need helpers, so come and help!

We will be having a Fellowship Meeting on June 5th at Hallettsville at 10:00 a.m. We will have a special Missionary Speaker. Everyone is invited and a noon meal will be served.
Our next Captain’s Class with Captain Robert will begin on June 11 and go until the 18th. this is a unique opportunity to get one’s Captain Licenses in Port O’Connor. Please contact the Sea Academy for information at 361-758-6184.

Fisherman’s Chapel is an interdenominational congregation which welcomes people from all faiths. Our Sunday services begin at 10:00 a.m. with Bible Study; 11:00 a.m. for Morning Service; and 6:00 p.m. for our Evening Service, We gather on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. for our Midweek Service. We have many other special events that will be a blessing to people in this community. You are invited to “Come, grow with us!”

It seems as if the flowers and trees benefited from the severe freeze we experienced here earlier this year. We have the greenest leaves and the most beautiful flowers we have had in years! While we were mopping up the indoor floods and replacing burst pipes, God was preparing this glorious spring for us! Just more proof that everything works for good under His control.

Speaking of spring, school will be ending soon and graduation can’t be far away. First Baptist Church honors their seniors every year with the presentation of a Bible during a Sunday morning church service. This year we only have one graduate from our church, Dylon Schumann. Congratulations, Dylon. We are so proud of you. FBC is praying that your future is filled with God’s blessings and that you seek his direction for your life.

It’s also almost time for our semi-annual Birthday Bash. It will be held on June 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Make plans to attend and bring a side dish or dessert to share. The church will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone and we will be honoring our January through June birthday celebrants. We haven’t had a church wide gathering since December. Hibernation is over!

The next big event on the FBC calendar is going to be Vacation Bible School, July 11-14. Like last year’s VBS, we will have a youth group from Arkansas helping us and we enjoyed hosting them last year. Make plans for your children and grandchildren to attend and remember that we will be collecting spare change every day during VBS to send to the South Texas Children’s home. It’s always an exciting contest between our boys and girls to see who can collect the most money.

We have two collection boxes in our foyer that stay out all year. One is for the Community Food Bank that is administered by Fisherman’s Chapel. Any nonperishable food item is accepted. The other collection is for the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoe boxes. Small toys, soap bars, hair items, colors, markers, T-shirts, socks, washrags and toothbrushes are just some of the items that are needed. Last year we sent 172. This year our goal is 200! The boxes are sent around the world and each will contain a Bible written in the language of the specific country. Be part of this wonderful ministry.

Pastor Phillip Miller is waiting to welcome you to any of our activities each week. Sunday services are at 11:00 and 6:00. Sunday School for all ages is at 9:45. Youth activities are Sunday and Wednesday at 6:00. Men’s (7:00) and women’s (4:00) Bible study are both on Tuesday. Prayer meeting is Wednesday at 6:00. Last, but not least, our choir meets to practice every Sunday evening at 5:00 and all are welcome to join. No reservations are necessary! For more information, please call 361-983-2727.
