Trish Cyrus, a local Seadrift area resident, has her fish! She caught a beautiful twenty-five inch red fish at the “Hole”. The “Hole” is technically the Navigation District Harbor, but as kids it was the “Hole”! Trish has this to say about her catch, “We are blessed to live in an area that we can go out and catch our food.” So true, Trish!

Return of the Red Snapper

Anytime that the summer winds start to calm and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico start to look more like a backyard pool than a washing machine, many Texas anglers break out the big rods and head out in search of one of the most popular recreational species…Red Snapper! When fisheries managers first identified that Red Snapper stocks were on the decline, CCA Texas did what we always strive to do, put the fish first and removed snapper from STAR.

Well, the time has come that this beloved, and delicious, fish made its long awaited return to the Hoffpauir Offshore Division of the STAR Tournament! With a liberal Federal water season expected and results from the Great Red Snapper Count showing 23 million Red Snapper off the coast of Texas, the STAR Tournament Committee could not wait any longer. In order to help conserve and maintain this incredible fishery, STAR will have a 20 lb. minimum for all Red Snapper weighed in. The lucky angler to catch the heaviest fish, will take home a 570 EFI Polaris Ranger in Pursuit camo, Big Tex trailer, from Hoffpauir Polaris and a special edition STAR trophy. STAR will also be awarding four Runner-Up places gift cards from Academy Sports + Outdoors.

For more information, including a list of weigh-in stations, instant-entry registration locations in your area and weekly leader board updates, go to www.startournament.org.

April 9th was a special day for folk needing the Covid vaccine in the Seadrift and outlying areas!\Due to the combined efforts of the City of Seadrift and various State agencies, the free vaccination clinic became a reality. Held at the Seadrift Civic Center, the National Guard provided the hands on service for all that wanted the vaccine.

Special thanks to Seadrift Mayor Elmer DeForest, Seadrift Police Chief Leonard Bermea and his department, and on-sight coordinators Ernie Paez and Walter Ball.
