SEADRIFT – Leonardo G. Nevarez, Jr. passed away Sept. 28, 2020. A Memorial Service was held Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Bayside Community Church in Olivia. Thoughts and memories can be shared online at www.gracefuneralhome.net.

Homer T. Gaines went to be with the Lord October 2, 2020 at the age of 83. He was born February 20, 1937 to the late Hallie and Ruth Walker Gaines.

Funeral service was held at First Assembly of God Church, Seadrift. Interment followed at Seadrift Cemetery.
Honoring him as pallbearers were Rex Bennetsen, Christopher Gaines, Russell Frank, Scott Boje, Caid Enax and Zach Frye.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Naomi Ross and brother Lester Gaines.
He is survived by his sisters Lottie E. Frank, Mittie E. (Rex) Bennetsen; brother Eldon Dale (Peggy) Gaines and numerous nieces and nephews.

SEADRIFT — Mark Steven Metzler, 69, of Seadrift, Texas got his wings on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Hospice of South Texas in Victoria, Texas. Mark fought a long battle with dementia which ultimately took his life way too early.

Mark was born on August 17,1951 in Victoria, Texas. He was the son of Melbourne B. and Ruth June (Moore) Metzler. He spent his childhood in Bloomington, Texas where he graduated from Bloomington High School in 1969. He was an avid athlete and played all sports. His favorite events were high jump and hurdles in track. He attended Victoria College and drove a school bus to support himself, sharing an apartment with a dear friend, Paul Martin. Mark joined Union Carbide in July, 1973 where he held roles as insulator, pipe fitter (projects gang and Poly F), maintenance planner and chemical plant operator in the ethylene oxide unit. He retired in August, 2005.

Mark was an exceptional outdoorsman. He shot skeet in double AA class and bowhunted elk in Colorado and Nilgai antelope in South Texas. He was passionate about bird hunting for dove and fishing in the bays around Seadrift for trout and redfish. He trained English pointers and Labrador retrievers for bird hunting. He was so skilled, he made everything look easy and enjoyed sharing his talent with friends and family. His favorite time outdoors was spent at the Port O’Connor cabin he shared with friends and rebuilt with Curtis Martin after a hurricane. He always said being there made a day last forever. His favorite month was October because the flounder are running, and he loved to gig flounder from the boat at night.

Mark loved country western music and dances, stopping only long enough to wipe his forehead with the handkerchief he always carried in his back pocket. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing the old tunes from Bob Wills, Willie Nelson and others. He loved to tell a funny joke and delivered the punchline with a twinkle in his eye and a smile under his mustache.

Mark loved to visit friends and when anyone needed help, he was the first one to get there and the last one to leave. He kept spare tires in his shop and watched for anyone who might have a flat near the house. On many occasions, he would change a tire for folks, getting them safely down the road.

Mark married Cheryl Martenson in November, 1981 and is survived by her, his children Meaghan (Robert) Neill, Burt (Kelley) Metzler, Leanne (Jerome) Landreneau, 8 grandchildren and sister, Diana (Dave) McKay.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calhoun County Humane Society.

What Is This Election About?

Is it about who is the best person to be president? Whom do you want, Joe Biden, an obviously weak and cognitively impaired person, or President Donald J. Trump, a man who had accomplished more in less then 3 years than anyone thought possible? Even faced with continuous false accusations and investigations by politicized bureaucracies, untrustworthy advisors and leakers in his own admin, and a constant campaign of Resist and Obstruct by the Democrats in Congress, Trump perseveres. And in a endless fight with Nancy Pelosi, so at odds with our History, laws, and Constitution, so Anti-American, one Democrat from heavily Democratic New Jersey, changed Parties in disgust. Trump shook off the deadly Covid 19 in 4 days, back campaigning in a week! Also knowing Biden will be replaced with Kamala Harris, the most radical Leftist in the Senate, and probably quickly?

Is it about the Federal Govt and the Constitution? If so, Trump is first president in 30 years to actually try and follow it. And the Dems fought him tooth and nail, from trying to stop Illegal Immigration that reached the proportions of an Economic Invasion, through stopping giving visas to potential terrorists, to stopping flights from Covid ravaged areas. He also reduced over-reaching and unconstitutional Bureaucratic Regulations, often generated by Bureaucratic Committees, rather than Congress, to allow our businesses and industry to prosper.

Is it about the Covid, the ChiCom Flu, an engineered biological weapon? When Trump started banning flights from Wuhan, the Dems had a fit. The same old cries of “Racist and Xenophobe” were repeated 24/7 by Dems. Nancy Pelosi had a block party in SF Chinatown, “Hug a Chinese” was repeated from sea to sea. DiBlasio did similar in NYC. DiBlasio came to the front when Trump stopped flights from EU countries that had become the Epicenter of the epidemic. DiBlasio and Gov Cuomo had fits about Trump trying to stop it coming in. They encouraged Street Parties and Demonstrations to protest the travel the bans. Their efforts soon made the New York City area, including several counties of New Jersey and one in Connecticut, the New Covid 19 Epicenter of the World! Their forcing infected people to remain in nursing homes killed thousands. The Dems foolish banning the use of HCQ caused millions of unnecessary infections and and tens of thousands of deaths… all because Trump suggested we look into it. New Jersey had the highest death rate per million population, and New York is second. For months, that area was responsible for over 1/4 of the infections and deaths in our whole nation. Even today the Deaths/million are the highest in the country: NJ- 1,833; NY- 1,715; followed by Mass- 1.388; Conn-1270; LA- 1207; RI 1,064. All the Top Death States have Dem Governors. The Nation wide average is 658 deaths/million population. Texas is 18th with 582, less than a third of NJ & NY, even with the terrible Hot Spots like Harris County with 2,657 deaths of a State wide total of 16,886 total deaths, add Hidalgo- 1,824; Bexar- 1,347; Dallas- 1,161; and Cameron- 1,037 for a total of 8,020. Almost half of the state total in 5 of 254 counties. (All above numbers from Worldmeter on 10/08/20, they will change at later times.) All of these High Death Rate areas are controlled by Democrats, but Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and their Manure-Spreader Media are still pushing the lies that Trump is at fault. Biden is closely allied with and supported by China! The real culprit in this global Epidemic that was caused by Chinese, their Lab mismanagement at best, but most probably development of a bioweapon.

Is it really about the Economy? Look at the gains made in only 3 years, after 8 years of Obama “Stagflation”, up to the ChiCom Virus. And for once the major gains were for working people, with the greatest gains for “Minorities” – Blacks, Hispanics, Women, Asians. You know, the groups the Dems say they are for, but never produce anything for, but promises, more bureaucracy, more taxes, and Govt programs that fail. 10/9 news report: “A solid majority of 56% of Americans say they are better off now than they were four years ago, a new Gallup survey reveals. Only 32 percent say they are worse off than four years ago. The number is, as Fox News’s Laura Ingraham noted on Thursday night, “the highest Gallup has ever recorded.” And that is after all the panics, disruptions, and lock-downs for 9 months, and all the “Resist and Obstruct” from Pelosi and Dems, plus the summer of D-Rat instigated and supported, Riot & Revolution.

Or is it about forcing Socialism on America? Joe Biden is controlled now by the some of the worst of the Far Left elements of the once “Democrat Party”. Look at the videos of his speeches, Look at what he says to his Party, and then look at what he and Kamala say in their Public Debates. Their Party blueprint is Back to the Govt by Bureaucracy of the Obama times. But with the Green New Deal on top. Stop Energy Production, throw out the Second Amendment and confiscate any guns that offend the Radical Left, support the UN in everything they want, Open Borders with Free HealthCare and Free Education for illegal invaders on top of the existing Welfare State, and $4 Trillion dollars of new Taxes. No plans for Re-Industrializing America, just open our markets to China. Keep our churches and schools closed until they say the ChiCom Virus is over and we can take off our masks. How can we survive that?

So, what is this election about? I think Leo Terrell said it best on last Saturday’s Justice with Judge Jeanine, “Trump loves America, the Democrats only love Power!” This is from a black Civil Rights Attorney, now a News Commentator and a “recovering Democrat”.

VOTE MAGA! VOTE TRUMP! VOTE R.E.D. Remove Every Democrat! Until Americans can take back the Democrat Party, or start a new Constitution Party! Prosperity for ALL Americans!

One important thing must be noted about the blatant disrespect of today’s law and order. This coupled with the lack of responsibility by local and state enforcement are a constitutional crime.

An unacceptable response from some to a new incoming president was met and continues to harbor elements that have led to lawlessness in America. The refusal to not only enforce but to also encourage no respect for existing law. This inspired some cities, counties, and states to a path of destruction. This undermined the integrity of our system. This became a model to radicalization causing mass exodus from established law. Now we are all facing the effects and destruction of this action. We also must contend with a growing mob inspired environment that this has created. This movement has now become an environment of “overthrow” of government., Internal and foreign energies are ramping up to make this happen. God please help American to be great again!
