A Christian’s Response to Abortion
By Donald R. Cook

Many believe that abortions are really humane.
They should be forced to see the remains.
A developing unborn had never a chance
To see daylight, love or to dance.
As adults aren’t we responsible for things that we’ve done?
Instead, some terminate and destroy evidence like a knife or a gun.
If it’s not murder, what should it we name?
We are not talking about children playing a game.
It’s about a new life that was given to two;
Are the unborn any different from me or to you?
Me and your parents never considered this,
instead they greeted our arrival with a hug and a kiss.
Have they grown so impersonal that they think solely of self?
If so, they should be made to stare at a tissue and blood filled
bottle sitting on their shelf.

First United Methodist Church if Seadrift is offering a Virtual Bible School, exploring the Armor of God with the Knight’s of Northcastle.  We will follow our fearless knight and his trusty sidekick Sparky the Dragon as we seek the treasure of God’s Armor.  There will be bi-weekly craft packets, craft videos, music and dance videos and bible lessons.

We are asking families to register through our website (fumcseadrift.com) so that we know how many craft packets to provide.  Participation is free, but registration is necessary for craft supplies and to be included in the closed Facebook group that will be providing the videos. We look forward to continuing to grow in the midst of the COVID situation, with you and your family.

Victoria College’s Vocational Nursing Program has extended the deadline for accepting applications from Sept. 1 to Oct. 1.
“We want to give prospective students in our program every opportunity to complete the application process in light of the current COVID-19 situation,” said VN Program Chair Joyce Harper. “This will allow additional time for the checklist requirement.”

Victoria College’s Vocational Nursing Program is a 12-month certificate program offered on VC’s Main Campus and in Cuero, Gonzales and Hallettsville. The program is fully approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Successful completion of the program enables students to take the National Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Satisfactory achievement on the exam qualifies students for licensure as a vocational nurse.

Victoria College will offer a Plumbing Level 1 course on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 22-Dec. 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. at VC’s Liberty Street Industrial Training Center.

The cost for the course is $600 and includes all materials. Scholarships and financial aid are available.

The course will provide an introduction to the plumbing profession, safety and tools. Students will also learn plumbing math and drawings.

“The students will learn the fundamentals of plumbing and all the tools used in the industry,” said instructor Bobby Stevens, who has taught at VC for three years and owned Stevens Plumbing & Repair in Victoria since 1979. “They will learn how to read blueprints, do some soldering and learn how to do compression fittings.”

Stevens said there is a shortage of plumbers in the Crossroads region.

“Qualified plumbers are always in high demand,” Stevens said.

Students must first successfully complete the Core Curriculum: Introductory Craft Skills course before taking the Plumbing Level 1 course.

Due to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, students will be required to wear a facial covering, have their temperatures taken and pass a health screening before entering the classroom. Social distancing will also be required.
VC’s Liberty Street Industrial Training Center is located at 1404 N. Liberty Street in Victoria.
