Turn the TV Off! Get in your Truck or SUV and come on down. Port Lavaca, Port O Connor, Seadrift are hot spots for getting out of the jammed up Big City Traffic. We have fresh Air and the fishing is on Fire! The only thing on fire down here are BBQ pits with Redfish on the Half Shell, Grilled Steaks and Ribs. It’s not even July 4th weekend yet and the party has already started. You’re going to have to be patient because the word is out. Even if it’s a Last Minute Trip call the Citys Chamber of Commerce to assist you in finding the hidden gems of the Texas Middle Coast.

The Dog Days of Summer are in full swing. June 12th we woke up to a cool North wind. Summer north winds are chill the air and knock the mosquitoes down a bit welcome change this time of year. Which reminds me. Here is a tidbit of secret fishing knowledge. If the mosquitoes are biting so are the fish. So, now you know.

The wade Fishermen are doing the best it seems with the Jetty Jerkers coming in a close 2nd. The Bays are plum full of Reds, Trout and Flounder. Black Drum are schooling around reefs and Back Bays. Sheepshead which is a Fall Target species are still around but in short supply.

I’m out on a Spot and Stalk Fly Fishing Trip out of the Airboat today. It was nice when the north wind was barely blowing. You could see their tails up along the bank as they swam through the grass looking for crabs and shrimp. I cleaned one the other day and I saw what they had in their stomach. That’s how I know which flys to tell my Fishermen what to tie on for the best shot. Fly Fishing is an art for sure and I’m the kid that never could color inside the lines. And I’m clumsy added to being out of shape I just realize being as Fly Guide is not in my cards. Now I do know where the Reds and Drum cohabitate on hard pack sand and I can get you to those remote locations via American Air Ranger. If that’s something you are interested. A group of Fly Guys is a easy group and I can take up to 4. But if you are wanting a poling skiff Tom Horby and Jack Campbell are the best in the business.

This weekend looks to be a mad house with July 4th fast approaching. Please be patient on and off the water. Also prepare that your secret spot that no one knows about will have been fished out by the time you arrive, so don’t freak out.

Hey if you haven’t been Flounder Gigging. You need to get you a charter booked. Captain’s Pat Lester, Shawn Harvey, Dustin Rabenaldt, Mike Foster and Big Brad Graham are on them. Flounder numbers are up based on my 30 plus years experience and those Captains are at the top of the list when booking a Flounder Gigging Trip. Here’s a tip when booking a Flounder Guide, Call after 2PM

So Saltwater Lodge has switched directions and moved to different pastures. We will gladly handle any Lodging needs from Full Service, Bed and Breakfast and Bayhouse Rentals. Please give me a call anytime to assist with your Outdoor Lodging and Bookings. If I don’t know, I know a guy, LOL.

Everyone needs to think ahead and be prepared to be patient. Law Enforcement will be out in full force so be respectful and Don’t Get behind the wheel if you been Drinking. Your holding the key to your own destiny there.

Give me a call.

Photo-#2If there’s one thing we can be certain about in the month of June, it’s the fact that we’ll probably see varying tides on an almost daily basis, with four tides occurring on a lot of those days. We’ll also continue to have windy days, and we will almost surely see the direction of those winds vary quite unexpectedly. And barring the exception of any unexpected rain, anglers should probably expect pretty much the same conditions on a daily basis throughout this month and into July.

Dominant winds are generally of a southerly nature right now, so start looking regularly for fish in places like the shorelines outside of Pringle Lake, easy-access back lakes like Panther Lake, and any and all of the southern-most shorelines of Espiritu Santo and San Antonio Bay that line the grassy banks of Matagorda Island. In approaching your morning wading spots this month, try locating shorelines and lake areas that contain plenty of trout-green water and an ample amount of visible bait activity. If you prefer top water action, start the day with a surface walker and proceed from there. If there happens to be no “takers” on the top, tie on a tail and get to work out in a little bit deeper water, especially as the morning sun rises higher in the sky.

In other news, it was announced earlier this week that most of the money that Aransas County applied for that is needed for the reopening of Cedar Bayou has now been approved. Congressman Michael Cloud announced that FEMA is granting a little over $6.4M toward the Cedar Bayou recovery project. It’s estimated that the entire restoration project will cost $7,141,749.00, so the project is now 90% funded (only lacking 10% of the total cost of the project). As Texans, we all thank Congressman Michael Cloud, Senator John Cornyn, and Senator Ted Cruz for all their efforts toward securing this much needed funding for Cedar Bayou.
