Happenings at First Baptist Church by Diane Cooley

Is it any doubt that we are blessed to live in Port O’Connor, Texas? After all these months of confinement, masks, gloves, social distancing and disinfecting, things are starting to ease. The craziness, riots and high numbers of Covid cases have not come to our small community and hopefully things will stay that way.

Churches have finally been allowed to reopen. Meetings and gatherings can begin again. First Baptist has had several weeks now of services. Our first were held in the parking lot and we all stayed in our cars. Then, we were able to move into our sanctuary where half the pews were blocked off and masks were required. This Sunday, no pews will be blocked, social distancing is encouraged and masks are optional. The disinfecting is still ongoing and no hugs or handshakes are allowed! The offering plate will not be passed, but will be in the foyer for your offering.

Sunday School has started again for adults and children. Bible Study has started for men (7:00) and women (4:00) on Tuesdays. Vacation Bible School is scheduled to start on Sunday, July 5, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. It will continue July 6-8, from 9:00-12:00. You can register your child/children (pre K through 6th grade) on line or at church on the first day. Most activities will be held outside this year under canopies. Plenty of water and shade for everyone and plenty of Bible study and fun!!!!

In May, we started serving free drive-by meals on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. These will continue through the month of June. On the 17th, the menu will be spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, salad and peach dump cake. On the 24th, the menu will be chicken nuggets, tater tots, carrot sticks with Ranch dressing and dessert. Drive by and honk for a delicious hot meal.

We are waiting to welcome you to any of our services or studies. Praise God that we are no longer prohibited from worshiping when and where we please. Please don’t take this right for granted because it was so easily taken from us. Attend church this Sunday.
