WittnebertDennis “Poodle” Wittnebert Sr., 89, of Seadrift, passed away January 29, 2020. He was born January 6, 1931 in Calhoun County to Louis F. Wittnebert and Christina Fisher Wittnebert. He worked as a commercial shrimper for many years, loved playing his guitar and harmonica, and was very active in First Baptist Church of Seadrift. He was proud of his service to the Lord, having served as a Deacon for around 50 years, taught Sunday School for almost 70 years, conducted 155 funerals, did a nursing home ministry for around 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Wittnebert; sons, Dennis Wittnebert Jr. (Debbie), and Mark Wittnebert (Lolly); daughters, Susan Lynn Hodges (Ronnie), Rachel Christina Moses (Michael), and Cindy Alford (Gary); step-daughter, Tracey Fletcher (Les); 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vandlean Wittnebert; parents; sister, Eleanor Hodges, and brother, Floyd Wittnebert.

Funeral Services were Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Seadrift with Brother George Yarborough officiating. Burial followed in Seadrift Cemetery. Pallbearers were Zachary Wittnebert, Bronson Moses, Jake Wittnebert, Ardie Hodges, Remington Maddux, Joseph Nunley, and Dalen Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers were Marcus Blevins, Nathan Wooldridge, Martin Sprague, Kenneth Kirchner, Jackson Cross, Terry Maddux, and Joe Beaver.

Condolences – Clyde Vernon Jorgensen

Clyde Jorgensen, of Port O’ Connor, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at the age of 85. He was born in Marquette, Nebraska on July 30, 1934, to the late Joe Jorgensen and Cecilia Williamsen Jorgensen. Clyde met Cynthia Kay Simons Jorgensen when he was stationed at Foster Air Force Base in Victoria, Texas, they married in Edna, Texas on June 20, 1958.
After marriage they moved to the farm near Marquette, Nebraska, living there until retiring in 2000. After retiring Clyde and Kay built their house in Port O’Connor, Texas., where they enjoyed fishing, dominos, metal detecting, wood carving, watching Nebraska Football and meeting old friends and making new friends, but traveled to Nebraska numerous times during the summer months enjoying their farm.

Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Kay Jorgensen; brother: Roger Jorgensen and his wife Donna; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Clyde is preceded in death by his sister: Glenda Riblett; brothers: Aller Jorgensen, and Gerald Jorgensen.

Funeral service were held at Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the First United Methodist Church of Edna. Interment followed at the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna.

Pallbearers were Allen Andersen, Dale Andersen, Chris Prihoda, Dick Riblett, Robbie Sanders, and Lonnie Kopecky. Honorary pallbearers were Melvyn Russell, Robert Sanders, Bob Stillwell, Virgil Price, Roger Jorgensen, Joe Prihoda, Tommy Merka, Buddy Motley, Franklin Russell, Jose Santiago, Charlie Nilson, and Chuck Keasling.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Edna, 216 W. Main St., Edna, Texas 77957, or Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna, 1300 N. Kleas St., Edna, Texas 77957. Arrangements were under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221. www.oaklawnfhednatx.com.

Jack Johnson, 56, was called to his heavenly home by our dear Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2020. He was born on July 26, 1963 In New York to Jack and Shirley Johnson and grew up on Carolina Beach, North Carolina. He worked in the construction field all over the United States. Jack was devoted to his love, Karen Caraway, her son Kayden and his sons, Jake and wife Maggie, Trent and wife Jackie, grandson Tyler Dawson, granddaughter Braelyn.

In addition to his family, he leaves behind a brother Kenny Powell and sister Amy Powell Ottaway. He is reunited in God’s Kingdom with son Tyler and a sister Betsy Connolly, and his parents.

He was known for his bigger than life personality and his love of the outdoors, fishing, camping, riding his Harley and telling jokes.A celebration was held Saturday February 15, 2020 at Bubba’s Seafood in Seadrift, Texas.

Victoria College will offer a “Microsoft Word Basics in a Day” course on Saturday, March 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Room 307 of the Conference & Education Center at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex.

The cost for the course is $45. The deadline to register is noon on Feb. 26.

Students will learn the basics of the most widely used and recognized word processing software from Microsoft Office. Course topics will include word processing terminology and concepts, editing functions, formatting options, special text options, tables and graphics.

Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex is located at 7403 Lone Tree Road in Victoria.

Republican Club To Meet

The Club’s monthly dinner and meeting will be held Monday, March 2, at the Grace Episcopal Parish Hall. Dinner (by reservation only – $11.00) is served from 5-5:45 p.m.; meeting at 6-7pm. This meeting will be devoted to planning for our County Convention to be held on Saturday, 21 March. They will select committee chairs and members and discuss the agenda for the Convention. Also at this time they will ask for names of those wishing to attend the state convention and vote on the resolutions we wish to be included in the Texas State Platform.
