Anita-VillarrealAnita Louise Villarreal, lovingly known as “Annie”, 83 a native of Port O’Connor, Texas went to her eternal rest, Wednesday, January 1st, 2020. . Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 am, Monday, January 6th, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 112 W. Adams St., Port O’Connor, with Father Max Landman officiating. Burial followed at Port O’Connor Cemetery.

Annie was born the only child to Tomasa Villarreal, June 18, 1936. Annie worked alongside her mother and other family members at the family seafood business, “Villarreal Crab Company”, she and her aunts and cousins stirred and baked up many dishes over the years for the locals and vacationers to enjoy.

Annie was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, participating in numerous activities. She enjoyed reading, watching movies and listening to music, and was always up for a good episode of, “General Hospital”.

Annie was preceded in death by her mother, Tomasa Villarreal; grandmother, Guadalupe Villarreal; uncles, Joe Villarreal, Jr. and Andrew Villarreal; aunt, Rosa Villarreal; and several other aunts and uncles. Annie is survived by numerous cousins and other loving extended family. Memorial donations in Annie’s memory may be sent to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Port O’Connor.

Juan Manuel Rios, age 75, of Seadrift, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas surrounded by his children and beloved wife of 57 years. He was born June 18, 1944 in San Benito, Texas to the late Juan and Rita M. Rios.

Juan lived most of his life in Calhoun County, started working at a young age, helped his parents, married and worked hard to provide for his family. He loved fishing, gaming, watching westerns, making friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances O. Rios; daughters, Linda Ybaro (Lonnie) of Port Lavaca, Rachel Castillo of Victoria; sons Juan M. Rios, Jr. of Lockhart, Ruben Rios of Victoria, and Samuel Rios of Austin; 3 sisers, 3 brothers, 10 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his paents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seadrift with Father Tommy Chenn officiating. Burial followed at Seadrift Cemetery.

Jason Wayne Mickle was born Jan. 01, 1978 in Port Arthur, TX. His family moved to Port Lavaca when he was 2 years old. He had gotten his GED and he was a welder. In 2006 He learned he had Crohn’s disease and for thirteen years he fought it. He passed Nov. 28, 2019.

He is preceded in death by his father W. B. Mickle III, his grandmother Jewel Mickle and his grandfather Joe Jason King.

He is survived by his mother; Cynthia King Mickle, his daughter; Alexia Mickle of Edna, his companion Brandi Long, his grandmother; Shirley Immel of Nederland, TX, his uncle; Tony and his wife Sharla King of New Braunfels, TX and numerous cousins.

He was cremated and a private memorial was held for his family and dearest friends and he was laid to rest.

Port O’Connor lost one of its much-loved residents December 9, 2020 – Mama. She was founder and operator of Mama’s Kitchen.

Mama passed away after a long battle with liver cancer. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind her sons Capt. Marty and Randy; three grandsons, and one great-grandson.

A memorial will be held in her honor some time in February. For details of her memorial, please call or text Amie at 361-237-9911.

JohnnyJohnny Rhyne of Port O’Connor passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at the age of 80. He was born July 29, 1939 in McLennan County, Texas to John Henry “Bill” and Jo Laura Rhyne. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joyce Rhyne, children John Rhyne Jr., Stephen Rhyne, Laura Rhyne, Barbara Rhyne and Janie Goldman; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and many other loving family and friends.

Johnny spent his young years in the Kemah/Seabrook area, then traveled the U.S. and the world working as a Supervisor, Inspector, and Estimator in the Industrial Construction business.

Loving to fish, he settled in Port O’Connor more than 25 years ago. He spent a few years operating a Port O’Connor restaurant (Port O’ Drive Thru) where he was known for serving great hamburgers and steaks. After some time in the short-haul trucking business, he retired to manage his rental property (The Pond).

Johnny was not one to remain idle and was always building and/or repairing things on his property. Although sometimes appearing gruff, he was trusting and generous, always willing to help those in need. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.
Following a funeral service in League City, Texas on December 14 and a graveside service on December 15, both officiated by Rev. Erny McDonough, he was interred at Port O’Connor Cemetery.
