Retha Mae Orsak, 88, of Port Lavaca, TX formerly of Port O’Connor, TX passed peacefully Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Born October 7, 1929 in Port O’Connor she is survived by daughters, Helen Hawes, Virginia West and sons, Lawrence (Dianne) West and John West.

Preceded in death by husband, Joe West; parents, Owen and Helen Raby; brothers, Dan, Jody, Robert Raby; daughter, Brenda Smetters and great-grandson, Clyde Hawes.

Beloved grandmother to 11, great grandmother to 22 and great-great-grandmother to 3.

Graveside Services were held Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Seadrift Cemetery in Seadrift, TX with Minister Kara Hairell-Speed officiating.

Pallbearers were Virgil Redding, Bryan Redding, Victor Huber, Joseph Huber, Chris Hawes, James Orsak , Daniel Hawes and Jason Smetters.

Phillip P. Efantis, 69, of Port O’Connor, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was a retired cabinet-maker.

He is survived by his life partner, Lois Kelldorf.

Per Phillip’s request there will be no services.

Thach ‘Rocky’ Van Le of Seadrift, Texas passed away on November 13, 2017 at the age of 52. Rocky was born on August 28, 1965 in Vietnam. He was the owner of Rocky’s Noodle House.

Rocky is survived by his wife Phuong Pham, daughter Christina Nguyen, sister Lam Le and brother Ryan Le.

Funeral Services were held Friday, November 17, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Seadrift, Texas with Fr. Phi Nguyen and Fr. Tommy Chen officiating.

Burial followed at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston.

Mrs. Hunter was born in San Francisco, CA on July 13th, 1945 where her father served in the Navy during WWII. She grew up in New Orleans, LA and attended the University of Miami. She resided in Port O’Connor, Texas since 2002 with her beloved husband of 47 years, Elbert “Gene” E. Hunter.

Mrs. Hunter passed peacefully in her sleep on November 12th, 2017 at the Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Port Lavaca, TX at 10 :15pm.

She is survived by her husband, Elbert “Gene” E. Hunter, step daughter, Kelly H. Gildart, and step grandson, James Hunter Gildart who is currently a junior at California Polytechnic State University.

Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her brother, Marcel S. Rivas, Jr., father, Marcel S. Rivas and mother, Vivian P. Rivas.

Julie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a blessing to all lives she touched and will be greatly missed. She was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, taking walks, cooking and entertaining.

Graveside Services were held at Port O’Conner Cemetery on Monday, November 27th, 2017.

Gloria Bryan, age 85 of Seadrift passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017. She was born October 24, 1932 in Saltillo, Mexico to the late Magdaleno Matamoros and Maria Gonzalez Matamoros.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria A. (Rob) Rolison of Whitney and Priscilla D. (Joseph) Vasquez of Round Rock; sons, Joe (Aurora) Bryan of Ingleside, Carlyle (Veronica) Bryan, Jr of Victoria and George Bryan of Seadrift; sister, Juana Muniz of Dallas and brother, Ricardo Matamoros of Mexico. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband. Carlyle Bryan, Sr.; son, Albert Bryan; grandson, Ruben Bryan; brothers, Magdaleno ‘Leno’ and Guadalupe Matamoros.
On December 9, a Funeral Service was held at First Baptist Church in Seadrift by Rev. Marcus Blevins. Burial followed at Seadrift Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to American Diabetes Association.
