1st Place in Marine/Aquatic

Four Junior class members of 4-H (4th graders) from Port O’Connor did an outstanding job in the March 7th 4-H County Round-Up for Calhoun County. They received their training from local photographer, LeaAnn Ragusin, who showed them how to look for good photo opportunities, how to take the photos and how to edit them.

Their photos, along with the other entrants’, were sent to an independent graphic designer and fine art photographer, Erica Moreno of Night Owl Visions in Austin.

Rylie Ragusin placed First in five different categories: Animal Wildlife, Dominant Color, Marine/Aquatic, Nature/Landscape, and Plants/Flora. Rylie will be advancing to the District Competition to be held in Victoria on April 8.

Antonio Gloria placed First in Elements of Design, 2nd in Animal Wildlife, 2nd in Marine/Aquatic, 2nd in Plants/Flora, and 6th in Nature/Landscape. Antonio will also advance to the District Competition.

Elanah Sanchez placed Second in Animals Domestic.

McKenna Guevara placed Second in Elements of Design, 3rd in Animals Wildlife, 3rd in Marine/Aquatic, and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th in Nature and Landscape.

EASTER Sunday, April 16 SUNRISE SERVICES

Port O’Connor Front Beach Pavilion – 6:45 a.m.

Seadrift Bayfront Pavilion 7:00 a.m.

POC Easter Sunrise Service
The Annual Port O’Connor Easter Sunrise Service will be Sunday, April 16, 2017 on the Front Beach at the Pavilion at 6:45 a.m.

The First Baptist Church Choir will be singing and there will also be Special Music by Fisherman’s Chapel. Bro. Donnie Martin will deliver the Easter Message.

Those attending will sing Easter Music. Wear a light jacket and bring a spare chair as we celebrate our risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

Hot coffee and rolls will be available courtesy of Fisherman’s Chapel and Cathy’ Restaurant.

Easter Egg Hunt in POC

The Annual Port O’Connor Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 15, 2017 at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

This is for Children Pre – K thru 6th. Grade. Special areas are set aside for each group. There will be refreshments and prizes.

Children, bring your Baskets and come to the Church at 2:00 p.m. for the BIG HUNT. Special Prizes for Special Eggs.

Fifteen Calhoun County residents were named to Victoria College’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester.

Named to the list were Port Lavaca’s Kody Balfanz, Michael Brown, Dustin Canales, Mauro Contreras, Dylan Cox, Reynaldo Gonzalez, Elizabeth Guevara, Natividad Maseda, Paul Riccio, Andrea Silva Andrade and Wei-Ting Su; Port O’Connor’s Justin Osborn, Troy Wygrys; and Seadrift’s Wyatt Bowman and Peter Deforest.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average over a minimum of 12 academic credit hours within the semester and must not have any unsatisfactory grades in any classes.

Peter DeForest Jr., son of Peter DeForest and Stacey DeForest of Seadrift made the Dean’s List of Honor Students at Victoria College for the 2016 Fall Semester with a GPA of 3.50 He is also a Seadrift Volunteer Firefighter
