Some members of the “Friends” Advisory Council joined the “Friends” Board of Directors for a February 11, Saturday morning tour of the site designated for our new library in Port O’Connor.

Joanie Morgan, Vice-President, conducted the tour and explained where the library would be located on the donated property just to the side of where the current library stands.

After this, the group headed back to the library and some time was spent on bringing the Advisors up-to-date on the status of this exciting project.
Judy Whitworth, President, spoke about the progress that has been made and that a floor plan was coming together and consulting with potential contractors and grant writing is underway.

Ursula Price, Treasurer, shared some budgetary and financial stats and on behalf of the Board of Directors thanked Jim Hooper, who was in attendance, for his ongoing and enthusiastic support for fundraising through his annual Chili/Gumbo Cook-off.

Then, everyone was treated to some yummy food in a colorful setting. Joanie did a great job in displaying the fare in a Valentine’s Day venue! She also had seven single-rose vases that were given out to those holding a winning ticket. All in all, a good time for library updates, delicious refreshments, and camaraderie!

The Seadrift Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Shrimpfest Fishing Tournament has donated to three area organizations. They recently presented a $1,500 check to The Harbor Children’s Alliance & Victim Center for youth education and support in schools.

They also presented a $1,500 donation to Seadrift Schools to cover much needed student supplies. Additionally, they presented a $1,000 donation to the Seadrift Volunteer Fire Department to help cover food and supplies for the Department’s Annual Chili Supper benefit fund raiser.

Thanks go out to the Chamber and Fishing Tournament for their generosity.
