Thank You to the Named Members of the Port O’Connor Improvement District Board

To Allen Junek, Joe Newsome, and Brian Redding: as a resident of Port O’Connor, I would like to extend my appreciation for filling the three vacancies on the Port O’Connor Improvement District Board, as this is virtually a thankless job.

You have brought stability and direction to the board under very difficult circumstances. Hiring a communication company to inform and answer all questions concerning needed improvements and financing options, finding a company with qualifications to manage the district after the loss of Victor Leach, and lowering the water rates when Mr. Leon Brown made such big promises, yet abandoned his case when it became obvious he was not going to win. As the district could recover their legal expenses with a surcharge to all rate payers if the district won the case in trial.

I recommend to all qualified registered voters to vote for your continuation on the board to keep our community moving forward.

Nancy Childers

With Sincere Thanks!

Marie Hawes served two terms as POC Service Club President this time around. She has served before and is always hard at work in whatever project we may take on. During her recent terms we accomplished a great deal including funding numerous scholarships and memorials, finalizing the Locator Map at Kingfisher Beach, providing new signs for the POC Volunteer Fire Department, and improving the sand volleyball courts, hosted two Christmas Luncheons and two hugely successful Toy Runs and Boat Parades, raised money for ongoing scholarship funding through biannual Community Garage and Bake Sales, added members and volunteers to our organization and worked cooperatively with other community organizations for the betterment and benefit of the community.

While this list of accomplishments is incomplete, her success as President and leader was completely great. She was fun, encouraging, inclusive and inventive while working tirelessly wearing a smile and extending a hand to any who asked. The new officers have big boots to fill to lead this community crew, but thankfully Marie will be nearby to offer advice, assistance and expertise as needed.

Thanks Marie Hawes, for all your work and all your love so freely given. You have helped to make our efforts successful! You don’t get off that easily… see you at the next meeting. I hear they have a committee chair position all picked out for you.
