You are invited to participate in the annual Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce Consignment Auction to be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015, beginning 10:00 a.m. at Bauer Exhibit Building at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds. Get a jump start on spring cleaning and look around your house or business for any excess items or equipment that you no longer have a need to own. This is the perfect time to donate these surplus items or place them on consignment to be auctioned off.

The combined Chamber/Auctioneer commission for consignment items is as follows:

General Merchandise:
Sales price of $10,000.00 or more=15%
Sales price of $2,500.00 to $9,999.00=20%
Sales price less than $2,500.00= 25%

Motorized and/or heavy equipment = 15%

As an alternative to consignment, the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce will gladly accept any donated items as this annual auction serves as one of the Chamber’s fundraisers. In the event you choose to donate any items, the Chamber will receive the profit from the sale and you will receive a receipt acknowledging your charitable contribution.

The auction will be conducted by Marvin D. Seitz & Associates. Auction officials will be at the Bauer Exhibit Building at the County Fair Grounds on Wednesday December 2, 2015 through Friday December 4, 2015 (from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) to accept any consigned or donated items. If you have items you wish to place in the auction, please bring them to the Bauer Exhibit Building during those hours or call the Chamber office (361) 552-2959 for any additional information.

Even if you do not have items to sell, please come out to view and shop the merchandise. You never know when you might find that one thing you keep looking for! Food and refreshments will be available for cash purchase and proceeds will benefit the Calhoun County 4H Club.   Credit cards will be accepted for auction items, as will cash and checks.

This past Sunday we honored all our Veterans – Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and Merchant Marines. We recognized each branch of service with everyone standing. The congregation gave the Veterans a big applause and then gave the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America. It was all inspirational and an hour to our Veterans.

The morning service began with the choir singing the Doxology. The congregation sang “I Need Thee Every Hour” and “I Must Tell Jesus”. Music and Youth Minister Raymond Grant called the children forward and this was a record attendance of children. He then gave them a great children’s sermon on “Giving to God”.

Before Pastor Donnie Martin preached his sermon, the choir sang a musical special, “I Have Passed Over to Canaanland”. The service was well attended and I enjoyed having my great grandson, Jaxson Ellis and my granddaughter, Michelle Ellis, in attendance.

Our Port O’Connor 20th Annual Thanksgiving Service was held this past Sunday evening at Fisherman’s Chapel. All three of our Port O’Connor churches participated in this special service. A special offering was taken and the money was used to purchase food for the baskets to be given to the needy.

The Church Youth and 4H Club joined hands in having a Food Drive in front of Speedy Stop this past Wednesday afternoon. All food was given to supplement the Port O’Connor Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets.

The Church’s “Operation Christmas Child” Shoe Boxes will be delivered to the shipper this week. the Shoe Boxes will be delivered to children around the world this Christmas. The Church had 45 Shoe Boxes – a record!

The Ladies Book/Bible Study continue their meetings from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. each Tuesday in Fellowship Hall. They invite all ladies to attend this fine study group and enjoy the fellowship and teaching.

The annual Church Christmas Party will be Sunday evening, December 13, at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. This will be a “white elephant party” with some crazy gifts each person will bring. The quarterly “Birthday Bash” will be held at the same time. All those with birthdays in October, November, and December will be honored. Food will be “Finger Foods” brought by those attending. Everyone is invited to this fun time in Fellowship Hall. See you in church Sunday!
