The Calhoun County Texas Exes Chapter of The University of Texas at Austin Alumni Association recently presented a $2,500 scholarship.to a Calhoun High School graduating senior.  Pictured from left to right is recipient Chris Yeh and Evelyn Burleson, Chapter President. In addition, Mr. Yeh received a $450 scholarship to CampTexas, a University of Texas at Austin leadership retreat.

Chris Ragusin Memorial Grand Slam Scholarships

The Christopher Ragusin Memorial Grand Slam association was pleased to present scholarships to seven graduating seniors this year:

Jade Alford, Mercedes Kalisek, Falyn Thomas, Mc Call Stafford, Haley Harper, Xavier Resendiz, Mikaela Overton

The group would like to remind everyone that they are planning their fishing tournament for October 2 and 3, 2015. This will be the final Chris Ragusin Memorial Tournament.
If you would like to participate by donating raffle or auction items, helping at the festivities, or, of course, entering the tournament, please contact Amy at 361-935-8745 or Sylvia at 361-655-3521.

They hope to make this final tournament the biggest and best ever and would love to have you be a part of it.

Environmental Club Cleans Beach

Hope High School Environmental Club took part in a beach cleanup on May 7, 2015. The school is part of the Beach Guardian program with the Texas General Land Office.  The students are responsible for cleaning the Point Comfort Causeway beach along highway 35. Nine bags of trash were collected in a two hour period.  Club sponsor is Laurie Weaver. Local Youth Selected To Participate In Wildlife Leadership Camp

San Antonio, TX –Stetson Dierlam of Port Lavaca in Calhoun County has been chosen to participate in the Texas Brigades’ 10th Battalion Bass Brigade program this summer. He was selected based on his academic record, interest in wildlife and natural resources, and leadership activities.
The Texas Brigades’ mission is to educate and empower youths with leadership skills and knowledge in wildlife, fisheries, and land stewardship to become conservation ambassadors for a sustained natural resource legacy.  This is the 23rd year of the Brigades.
There are seven Brigade camps being held this summer: two Buckskin Brigades, two Bobwhite Brigades, Bass Brigade, Waterfowl Brigade, and Ranch Brigade.
Due to the high interest of these programs, the application season has closed for this year’s camps. If you would like to receive emails regarding the 2016 camps, please feel free to contact us.

On Tuesday, May 12, Seadrift school third graders had the opportunity to learn about local agriculture by attending the ag-in-the-classroom event, which is sponsored by various agricultural agencies in the community.  The students also visited the Calhoun County museum and LaSalle’s Monument at Indianola to add to their recent study of Calhoun County history.     -Emily Petrisky
