The Crawfish Festival is behind us now and was enjoyed by hundreds. So mark your calendars for the 1st Saturday in May of 2016, as the 4th Annual Crawfish Festival will be underway.

This weekend is the heart warming Warriors Weekend. We owe these people more than we can ever repay. Please come out and visit and let them know just how much we do care and appreciate what they have given for us.

Saturday, May 23rd, will be the Annual Kid’s Fishing Tournament for children 3-12 yrs., held at King Fisher Park & Beach, time is 9 a.m.-11 a.m.–all must register before beginning to fish, free bait will be furnished; trophies will be awarded for category winners. In 2014 there were over 60 children and we’re looking forward to more this year. Beginning at 1 p.m. will be a Kite Contest. The kites can be bought or homemade. There will be categories for all ages; trophies also awarded. Looking forward for some breeze to make this event a beautiful thing.

If you have not seen the new pavilion, you must drive down to King Fisher Park, get out and walk down and enjoy what the Chamber has been working for the past three years. This would not be a reality if not for all who have given time and money to make this a reality.

Next Chamber meeting will be June 8th-6:30 p.m. in meeting room of POC Community Center. I know we have a lot of newcomers in Port O’Connor, so come out and get involved with things going on. Give your ideas and suggestions.

Our booth at the Crawfish Fest was once again a hit with “Spin the Wheel, Win a Prize!” As the wheel was eagerly spun, seeing the look on the faces of participants was such fun for those of us manning the booth. The mood was mellow as books, candy, patriotic waving sticks, book bags, pens, and koozies were received. With each prize, we handed out our brochure to keep the community excited and informed about our goal to build a state-of-the-art facility soon. Also our colorful T-shirts and handsome coffee mugs were for sale.

Other activites planned for the summer include the Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, June 27, 9:30am at the POC Baptist Church fellowship hall. Everyone excited about the new library/learning center is encouraged and welcome to attend. In July a fundraising event involving Texas authors is planned at the Sanctuary and in August an afternoon social on the front beach featuring summer treats for the whole family. In addition, a sign is in the works to be displayed along a roadway here in POC showing the progress we’ve made so far in raising the funds needed to begin the actual building of the new library facility. More details to come!

So, as we launch into the warm summer months, please plan on being a part of these functions as we move along in our challenging and rewarding goal. Thanks!

On April 13th Judge Nancy Pomykal, Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 and Judge Janet Rosenboom, Seadrift Municipal Judge attended the first ever FEMALE JUDGES DAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL.  Senator Royce West, Senator Joan Huffman and Rep. Senfronia Thompson sponsored the event.

Texas has approximately 1,006 female judges presiding at every level of Texas courts.  Female jurist from city municipal judges, and justices of the peace to judges of the Texas Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeals were honored and recognized.

It was an exciting day.  Dressed in black robes, approximately 130 female jurists were in attendance. The group met in the Supreme Court room for brief networking and photo op with the senators and Supreme Court judges. They were then escorted to the Senate chamber where they were seated in the gallery while the resolution was read and adopted. After the visit to the senate, the judges were escorted to the House of Representatives where they were again recognized. A photo op was held on the south steps of the capitol and a reception for the judges sponsored by the National Association of Female Judges, was held in the capitol building.

“Judge Rosenboom and I felt honored and privileged to attend such a prestigious event. I have always enjoyed going to the capitol, but being there to be recognized by the Senate and House of Representatives made the day extra special.”  Judge Pomykal said.
